In watching the Midnight Express tapes Cornette made, I couldn't help but wonder what happened to The Fantastics after their hot feud in 88. It seems after the Great American Bash they simply vanished. Is there any story behind this or should I even guess? *cough*dusty*cough*

they stuck around after the MX feud...even won the US tag titles again in December, beating E.Gilbert & R.Simmons in a tourney final on the Clash. They dropped the belts soon after at Starrcade. They worked sporatically in the first couple of months of 1989 before dissapearing.

Yeah, but The Fantastics really fell off after The Midnight Express culminated at the Bash '88. They were to have a run with The Sheephearders, but The Sheeps left for Vinnie-land just before the U.S. tag tourney ended.
Remember, The Fantastics and Sheephearders were originally scheduled to be in the finals of the tourney and then have a rematch at Starrcade. If that had happened, then we could've had 1986 UWF all over again. But it didn't work out.

Don't blame Dusty! There is only so much you can do with The Fantastics. Historically, it never took them long to run their course. They really weren't that good.

you must be blinded by that "Bright Light" if you can't see the ability of the Fantastics

The " ability" of the Fantastics was completely overshadowed by Bobby Eaton alone! MX was the ultimate tag team between the two!!

I agree that the MX were the standard for tag teams...but in truth, I see the Fantastics as being on par with them. Just watch them in All Japan for more evidence as to why. As much as I hate to say it, they may have been better than the Rock N Roll Express.

I liked Da'Fantastics. Do y'all remember a match (it might have been a Clash) where one of the Fantastics was worked over for many minutes and finally had to submit. It might have been a US Tag Title match. Dont remember who it was they were facing. It stands out in my mind, becasue at that time, it was rare for a established team to submit in any match.

Bobby reformed the team with his younger brother Jackie, and the two have been on the NC indy scene for years. They will be appearing at the upcoming ACW show in Seagrove on Feb.4th. Haven't seen Tommy Rogers in forever, think he lives in Florida.

Tom I've never seen them submit. Sure it was the Fantastics? Are you thinking of the time the ref stopped the match because Fulton was beaten senseless by the MX? (though match re-started and Fantastics won)

Yeah, I am sure it was the Fantastics. Well, 98% sure, LOL! I can remember it was NOT a match against the MX. I am looking into this

I remember in 1988 when the Rock n Roll Express left the NWA. I was heartbroken over it. A few weeks later the Fantastics debuted and totally won me over with a great series of matches with the Midnight Express. They were super talented and I also remember fondly their work in the UWF in 1986/87.....When the Rock n Roll Express returned in the summer of '88 it was really cool seeing them team with the Fantastics in an 8 man tag on NWA Pro Wrestling...... Seems like they may have done it several times......I also though their matches in late 1988 vs Eddie Gilbert and Ron Simmons at Clash IV and with Kevin Sullivan and Steve Williams at Starrcade were really good......Those guys really deserve a place in the record books as one of the great teams of the 80's........

I think the Fantastics were even slightly better than the RnRs when it came to what they could (physically) do in that ring.
However, the RnRs always had a better (more personal?) connection to the crowd. Their personalities (or at least Morton's) was colorful enough to keep the fans more interested.

I got the chance to see the Fantastics (Fulton & Rodgers) face the MX at a Ward Family Promotion show back in 2004. Awesome match. It was great to see these guys put on a better show in a High School than Vinni Mac does every Monday night.
