I don't remember ever seeing any of the Von Erichs wrestle in JCP, but I do recall Flair mentioning them in interviews on Mid-Atlantic Wrestling, World Wide Wrestling and World Championship Wrestling. It's a shame too, because I think any of the three could have brought in some pretty big business working with Flair in this area. By the way Harcore Heroes, GREAT PICTURES!!!

It could be SD Jones, I traded newspaper clipings with someone near the Dorton Areana area around that time and his name was in the lineups a lot of times, while he still was wrestling in the WWWF area. I think he got more of a push down there than in the WWWF.

The wrestler in the photo is Bubba Smith. David Von Erich died in February 1984. The tournament him and Kevin participated in was on January 8th 1984 in Charlotte. Here are most of the results for the One night tourney for the Tag Titles... Round 1 ----------- The Assasins defeated Dory Funk Jr and Jimmy Valiant beat Ivan Koloff and Ernie Ladd David and Kevin Von Erich beat Rufus R Jones and Bubba Smith Bob Orton Jr and Don Kernodle beat??? It is Bubba Smith.... He and Rufus teamed and lost in the first round to the Von Erichs....which in turn lost to the eventual winner of the tourney....Orton, Jr and Kernodle.
Also Ivan Koloff teamed with Ernie Ladd and lost to the unusual team of Jimmy Valiant and Dory Funk, Jr.

Yep thats Bubba Smith with Rufus and thanks for the breakdown on the tourney. I had the teams listed but not actual matches. The two face teams your missing vs Orton/Kernodle and Assassins respectively are the Angelo Moscas and Mark Youngblood/Johnny Weaver. Im not sure which wrestled which so would apprecaiate any assist on that.
There were two additional matches on the card besides the tag tournament.
Ricky Steamboat D Sgt Slaughter Steamboats farewell tour US TITLE Greg Valentine D Dick Slater DQ
HH the card you referred to with the Japan talent was on March 7, 1982. That was an odd yet awesome night to see all the stars we never got to see in the states.

I know it's not the MACW territory, but my introduction to wrestling was World Class and the Von Erichs. Ready for this? I lived in upstate New York. The local station (affiliated with one of the big 3 networks) in Albany ran the show every Saturday morning at 11. The 2nd or 3rd time I watched was the Flair/Kerry match from Texas Stadium. I didn't know one guy from the other, so I went with Flair. He shared my first name, and he was the champion before the match.
The Northeast was WWF country, yet I didn't know who Hulk Hogan even was. Their show was on UHF, and I didn't get it. So the first few years I watched the Von Erichs. It was always cool to see Flair show up now and again too. I also remember one of the first bloodletting matches I ever saw...Killer Kahn against Terry Gordy in a Texas Death match.
World Class actually ran a couple shows in Albany a year apart. I got to see Kerry against One Man Gang one year, and Kevin against Abby the next. I also remember the 2nd year was right after they left the NWA.
