As far as worker is concerned, ring work, the best VE was Papa Fritz imho.
As far as the brothers are concerned I always felt Kevin was the best worker, ring work. I never really felt any of them were spectacular on the stick. And I just didn't get all the hype surrounding David(RIP) and the NWA title. Kerry could work with the right opponent, as in a Flair(who couldn't work with Flair) or Race, Gordy, and Tsuruta.

The black guy in the pic is Bubba Douglas aka Bubba Smith in JCP. SD Jones was working in the WWF during that time period.

Hardcore Heroes wrote: If I'm not mistaken, David Von Erich died a week later in Japan, and I'd heard this was his last match in the U.S.
I have a video i got from a guy in TEXAS , it was a special on the Von Erichs hosted by Bill Mercer.....In this Kevin said he and David wrestled Charlotte the week before David's death...Then David went to Japan...Yeah, he said it was David's last US match (i think, maybe i need to watch it again).........
I always thought David was the best worker, his matches with Jimmy Garvin and Harley Race were and still are awesome.........

If anyone knows or recalls, I need some clarification on this: Baba did his TV taping in Charlotte once. I don't believe it was the same night as this tournament, but it was similar in that there were a lot of names here that weren't ordinary Mid-Atlantic talent. Chavo Guerrero lost a belt to Onita (and Terry Funk was in Onita's corner.) Anyone know for sure if this was two separate cards, or just one? Sorry, I'm getting old.

Hardcore, I've never seen photos of the Von Erich's appearance in that tournament. Great job on those, and thanks very much for sharing!

1. to my knowledge, david von erich died on 2/10/84. 1a. kevin might have meant it was david's last match of any noteriety to show he and david were good enough to fight for the world titles ( to b.s. their reputation)
2. sd jones worked for JCP in the early '80's for a good while before he went to the WWF as a regular there.
3. the all-japan tv taping was a different show than this tournament.

By the time I got into wrestling, the Von Erich's had gone over to the AWA, as far as I can recall. I don't remember ever seeing them with the NWA. I started watching I guess about 85. I know I saw Starcade that year the first time. I was 12 or 13.

Referring to the black gentleman in the white trunks, it also LOOKS like Charlie Cook who was in Florida around this time as well. He held the Florida title for awhile, but hey, I can't tell by the picture.
Also, I'm new here so don't thrash me to hard on this one! LOL.
