During my trip to Atlanta for this past weekend's NASCAR race, a friend and I decided to stop by Abdullah the Butcher's House of Ribs. It had been a few years since my last trip there.
Saturday afternoon we decided to make the trek to Fairburn Avenue. When we got there, a handful of guys were outside. I could tell they were indy workers. They ended up being Wildside talent that had driven in from Texas. Apparently, they're regulars at Abdullah's.
Also met a few Deep South guys that happened to be enjoying some ribs, too.
Before we ordered, and quite coincidentally, the man himself walked in. The front door opened and in walks Abdullah. What a coincidence.
We sat down, shared a lot of stories and did some catching up. It had been a few years since I'd last seen Abdullah, but I've known him for a long time and have all the respect in the world for him. As is custom, he had to tell my friend about the night in South Georgia when he did an impromptu strip-down in the dressing room when I asked him and Cactus Jack about a missing 50 bucks.
Later, as we were enjoying some of the best BBQ chicken and ribs I've ever eaten, Abdullah interrupted me friend and insisted: "This is a black establishment, you eat with your hands!" Apparently my friend had been trying to carve up a piece of barbecue chicken with a fork.
I really enjoyed the couple hours we got to spend with the "International Godfather of Hardcore Wrestling," (as one of his new promotional 8x10s proclaims,) and I feel sure that he will be joining us at this year's fanfest in Rockville, Maryland.
Unfortunately, I had left my camera at the hotel, so I wasn't able to take any pictures on Saturday. However, I did make arrangments with the Butcher to return on Monday to meet him there for a couple quick pics (and another round of BBQ!)
Below are four of the pictures I took. If you're ever in Atlanta, make sure to make this one of your stops.
Thanks to Abdullah the Butcher for making me and my friend feel welcome!
