I too enjoyed this weekend, but unfortunately had to leave late Saturday afternoon. Therefore, I missed the Bret Hart Q&A, but there had to be a question or two directed at the Hitman concerning Flair. This did take place in Charlotte for pete's sake! I can find nothing of the sort anywhere online. Can any of you help?

Bret made a few comments that he was surprised about the reaction he recieved in Charlotte, considering it was "Flair Country". There were also a few lines to the effect of, "I had a different match with everyone I got into the ring with, unlike Ric Flair who does the same flip over the turnbuckle, runs to the other side, and gets thrown off".
The fans ate it up. After all, they were there specifically to see Bret.

Exactly, they were there for Bret. If Flair had walked in they would have kissed his butt too. I enjoyed the Q & A, but no one there tried to push Bret's buttons. I would have liked to pushed him on the screwed incident but decided to let it go and respect him and his fans in the room. I still feel like Bret takes no responsibility in the situation and blames everyone else.

Graham's just pissed 'cause he was gonna ask Bret if Montreal was a work. It was a work, right?

Bret Hart couldn't carry Flair's jockstrap much less be anywhere near the legend that Flair is. Bret is a mark for himself and thinks wrestling is real. Flair on the other hand is a class act who respects the business and knows how to do what is best for it even if it means putting over people who don't deserve it. I was more impressed by The Mulkey's presence at Fanfest than Bret Harts. He really needs to get over something that happened 10 years ago and get on with his life. I think his willingness to work with the WWE and Vince McMahon on a DVD project after everything he has said and done in the past says all that needs to be said about his character.

First let me say this: Yes, I am a Bret Hart fan... Have been for well over a decade. Yes, I followed him to WCW. Yes, I was shaking so bad I couldn't hold the camera straight to get a decent pic of him! But I still find it a bit odd that a documentary crew just happened to be around to film the whole Montreal thing. The thought crossed my mind that they could've received a call from Vince, saying that something BIG was about to happen, and inviting them to get it on tape. Beyond that, I have other concerns. Bret said it had nothing to do with wanting to go out a winner in CANADA... he just didn't want to lose to Shawn. What was he afraid of? After all, it was Canada, as he still continues to remind everyone. He would've left the match (and the company) with his Canadian hero image intact! As far as Ric Flair goes... I was more than happy to give David Flair $20 for an autographed pic of his dad. I wish I'd bought the poster of the 4 horsemen, and gotten Ole & JJ's autographs to go along with Ric's. That way, I'd only need Arn and Tully's... My only problem with Flair is that he should've left the game long ago. He'd make a great manager, but has failed to impress me as a wrestler for some time now. I was very disappointed at Bret's comments about fans in what was supposed to be "Flair country" hating the Nature Boy more than he did! And don't even get me started on the WWE legends DVD project. He was supposedly leaving Charlotte and heading for a meeting with ol' Vinnie Mac sometime this week. So much for his hatred of WWE / Vince McMahon. So much for never setting foot on WWE territory again!

Antidoug,
You echoed my sentiments exactly. I once chalked it up to my being such a Flair fan who invested little emotionally in the WWF, particularly during Bret Hart's reign. However, these days I do tend to think while Hart is a great talent, he is too much of a crybaby, has no sense of humor and as you said, pales in comparison to the Nature Boy.
Does Bret suck? Of course not. Did Ric maybe go overboard in his criticisms? Perhaps. But more importanlty, is Bret in the top ten greatest of all time? Nope. Is Ric? No. 1 all the way.
Like diamonds, Bret's bitching will last forever. And so will Ric Flair.

I've got mixed feelings. Flair will always be #1 in my world, but Bret is right there on his heels. Living in the northeast most of my life, I had a lot more WWF exposure, and grew to appreciate Bret Hart. I think that both Flair and Hart had a mutual respect for each other, with maybe a few issues that were left in a closet. If you ever heard Bret's shoot interviews a few years back, he didn't have a bad word to say about Flair. But for some reason, Flair buried Hart in his book. I took it with a grain of salt, as Flair buries several other very good wrestlers, while praising the likes of Undertaker and HHH to the ends of the earth. It was all Flair's opinion. I think the thing that really pissed off Bret was Flair mentioning Owen's death as a way for Bret to carry a grudge. Of course this happened! Bret lost a brother and friend, and it is probably still painful to this day. And it ticked Bret off. I think that is why Bret has come forward with his criticisms of Flair, in a way similar to the way that Flair had to give Mick Foley "a receipt". Is Bret a mark for himself? Yes. Is Flair a mark for himself? Yes. Most guys that have had any type of run at the top of a major company become marks for themselves. One other thing that I keep in mind is that some of the other top guys in my book, namely Terry Funk and Harley Race, seem to have nothing but respect for Bret Hart and his accomplishments. It seems to me like Bret kept his mouth shut for a long time about some of the big names in the sport (with the excpetion of Michaels). But when guys like Flair and Hogan fire the first shots, why should Bret just let it go?

Amen Flair1 !!! Antidoug Flair is anyhting but a class act, how classy was it to slam Hart and Foley in his book ? Yeah that is classy. Give me a freakin break . I've never been able to understand why every body marks out for Flair. It has been said time and time again and Brett said it again , Flair has been having the same match his whole career. For the record I was born ,raised and have lived my whole life here in "Flair country" and I have never liked Flair.

What Flair went through in WCW with Bischoff and others can be compared to what happened to poor, poor Bret Hart in Canada. The only difference is Flair actually got through it, moved on with his life, and went on to WWE where he has continued to entertain in and out of the ring. In the meantime, Bret Hart cries and whines to anyone who will listen and wallows in self pity about something that happened years ago. Ever heard Flair come on WFNZ Radio in Charlotte and talk sports? Ever see Flair on TV at a football or hockey game? Ever see Flair come on stage and sing with Jimmy Buffet? Ever see Flair at a Scorpions/Motley Crue concert dancing in the grass and buying people beer? Ever seen Flair at a local high school watching his son compete in a wrestling tournament and grinning from ear to ear the entire time while signing autograph after autograph without blowing anyone off or being rude in any way? Ever seen Flair in a bar on a Saturday night partying it up and entertaining everyone by strutting across the bar and wooing everytime a waitress walked by? Hell.......I doubt Bret Hart can use a public restroom or go through a Burger King drive-thru without crying to someone about getting screwed. What a fun guy he must be. I bet he's a big hit at parties? "Hey Bret.....tell us how you got screwed again........we never get tired of hearing that story!!!!.........haha........what a sad and bitter man. Him and Bruno should get an apartment together and cry on each others shoulders.

Its worse since Flair accepted being made to look terrible and ruin his legacy, all Bret did was lose to Shawn in Canada. Wasn't Bret slamming Flair in '93-'98 on certain things, in the Calgary Sun, monthly?
