RIP Big John Tenta a guy with a heart of gold. My best memory of Tenta, is not even a wrestling memory. I was working at an Hotel, Amusement Park in Moncton, NB. Tenta and Typhoon where staying the hotel, and just walking around the Amusement park passing the time. I had the oppertunity to speak with both of them, and had a few good laughs. About an half hour later, this 5 year kid, with his parents notices them, and the kid being a big wrestling fan was all excited. The Kids dad had obviously seen me talking with them, so he asked me if I think they would mind, if his son went to see them for an autograph. I said, that I was pretty sure they wouldn't mind. This little 5 year old kid goes and asked them, yet did didn't just give him an autograph, they took their picture with the kid, also played around with the kid, Tenta picked up the kid and pretended he was going to bodyslam him. The kid was in heaven, and from there I really knew that Tenta was a big man, with a even bigger heart. Always there for the fans. You are going to be missed

very sad news about John Tenta. His program with Hogan from WWE was very memorable. I also remember when he came out of the crowd and squashed the Ultimate Warrior. Tenta will be missed.

John will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers must go out to his family. The only good thing to draw from this is that his suffering has ended and he's now at peace....

I was there in the arena when Tenta and his partner Fred "Typhoon" Ottman won the WWE World tag team title from Ted DiBiase & Mike "IRS" Rotundo 14 years ago. What made this match so memorable to me was not only did it take place at a WWE TV taping, but the match was never listed on the paper program we were handed! (In fact, this match was never shown on TV as far as I know. A studio announcement by Lord Al Hayes that new champs were crowned was all that was given for viewers.) When they won the belts, it certainly was a surprise to everybody, but still exciting.
It is a little numbing to know a person you saw live is no longer around...

The Associated Press reported a small brief on this today with Tenta's background at LSU.
