I am sad to say that I just learned of Buddy Porter's passing.
It had been some time since I'd last seen Buddy, but I always considered him a friend.
Rest in Peace, Buddy!
ROCK HILL, SC -- Mr. Buddy James Porter, 59, of 325 Trexler Lane died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at home.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at Green Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, with Rev. Lee Teal officiating. Burial will be in Laurelwood Cemetery.
A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Porter was a son of the late William Desport and Evelyn Beatrice Anderson Porter. He was a member of Cornerstone Assembly of God in York. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War and received the Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. He was a 1986 graduate of York Technical College and worked in the finance business.
Surviving are four daughters, Regina Altman of Wilmington, N.C., Kimberly Efaw of Rock Hill and Paula Porter-Lacey and Brandi Comer, both of York; his brother, Charles Porter of Sumter; two sisters, Carolyn Bailey of Rock Hill and Mary Jane Bradley of Georgetown; and 10 grandchildren.

They announced Buddy's passing and gave the "ten bell tribute" to him at this past Saturday's big show in Lenoir, N.C.

They don't award Bronze Stars for any old thing. Wish we knew what Buddy did that earned him those two awards. It's for heroism under fire and that's all I know about it.
