Does anyone on here follow Rikki Nelson's Mid Atlantic promotion based out of Charlotte? How was he able to get use of that name? I read one of his commentaries several months ago that indicated he was getting out of wrestling altogether but the promotion would still go on.
Any ideas who is taking that over? I just never hear anything locally about their events. The only information I ever hear or read about is on his website, midatlanticwrestling.com.
Just wondering if anyone knows what's going on with that group. It shows them being a member of the NWA, not sure what that means these days.
Thanks!

They've been around since at least January 1999. That's when Greg Price, who was running "NWA Carolinas", went to promote for ECW and had his NWA membership transferred to Slim Baucom, who started up under the name "NWA Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling". A few years ago Baucom sold the operation to Nelson, but retained his NWA membership. There was a brief period where they split and Nelson had to stop using the NWA name, but it didn't last too long. As far as I know, Baucom is still the NWA member of record that sanctions the group.
On a side note, I read somewhere not too long ago that Nelson claimed to have bought the promotion from Jim Crockett. I guess he gave the money to Ted Turner and had him act as his frontman for all those years....
