i recall seeing his name listed as "joseph lofton jones" in the newspaper after he got it some trouble. greg is right. i happended to have seen joel deaton-billy black working for all-japan when i was over there. i always like joel deaton. and from the bouts i saw on tape, billy black was very good as well. i wish they had gone further than they did.

Bobby, you are correct...Joel Lofton Jones is Joel Deatons real name. As far as Billy Black is concerned you find on this website that funny story about Fireball Mike Fever beating Billy Black for the Ga. Heavyweight Title while working for Deep South Wrestling which was Jody Hamiltons Indy group at one time. Just a little 411 for ya.

i remembered that name from memory. i don't have a lot of info on Deep South. i have seen a bit of some tapes years ago. i did get to become friends with hudson and prazak years back. but we have since lost touch. the GA title huh? good to hear a title win in the fever history.

You are right that Vernon and Hoss are two different Deatons. Hoss is David Deaton and Joel's (Joel Lofton Jones from Warner Robbins GA) original tag team partner back in the late 70's. They started as the Deaton Brothers or Outlaw Deatons and both were originally trained by Lars Anderson in a small start up promotion he started after one of his many feuds with NWA. It was called World League something and based in an Atlanta suburb called Smyrna. David was a two time 4A GA high school heavyweight champ and played college football at Mississippi College. Joel had little sports backgroud (a little HS football), but did take to the ring naturally...his biological father played pro football somewhere. David wrestled for a short time as Thunderfoot No 2 as several others others did. They seperated at various times during the 80's and 90's, but Joel held on to the Deaton name and had more success than David. They also wrestled as the Bruno Brothers or a while. Both were "heels" in real life with many scrapes with the law and incarcerations and both liked the pain pills...etc. Here they are in the 80's pre-Thunderfoot days: www.obsessedwithwrestling.com/profiles/d/deaton-brothers.html
