NWA PRESIDENT RESIGNS; CONSIDERING LEGAL OPTIONS By: Bob Ryder 7/27/2005 10:20:48 PM
NWA President Ernie Todd has abruptly resigned his position and has leveled charges of racism in a message posted on his promotion's website.
In his announcement, Todd says "It is with great regret that I am forced to tender my resignation as President of the NWA & from the NWA Board of Directors. I cannot be a part of a Board that attacks my race, my heritage, my family & everything else they can, with the purpose of running me off the Board so they can control the NWA."
He continues, "I cannot, nor will I tolerate being called a "Drug Store Indian" or being referred to as "Hiawatha" , nor will I allow certain members of the Board & certain members of the NWA, to constantly refer to my family in derogatary ways, nor will I allow idle threats to be made against my family by "power hungry" members of this BOD & the NWA for their own political purposes. They can call me names, play all their counter prodcutive games they want, I can handle that, but when you bring my family & race into it as a last resort, that to me is stepping over the line!!!"
Todd, an Aboriginal, is considering legal action. "I will be considering my legal options as a result of this cowardly attack on my heritage & my legal options with the NWA & the individuals who made these comments. Attacks against one's race should not be tolerated in the society we all live in."

Just a question? With TNA basically incharge of the NWA belt and determining their champions and such, what use is the current National Wrestling Alliance other than history of the name?
While I do understand they have a loose confederation of independent promotions that are somehow "under" their banner, I do not understand how this benefits the indy promotions, especially with TNA being basically the main entity recognized with the NWA Title on a national level.
Enlightenment needed.

Does anyone know where I can find a copy of the bylaws of the National Wrestling Alliance from the 1980s or 1990s or today?

Does anyone know where I can find a copy of the bylaws of the National Wrestling Alliance from the 1980s or 1990s or today? I can't speak for the NWA of the 80s, but the NWA of the 90s (that I was a member of) did not have anything of the sort. It was that fly-by-night, if you know what I mean.

I remember Bob Geigel and Sam Muchnick, in the late 1970s and early 1980s referring to the bylaws of the NWA.

I JUST read an interview with Dixie Carter. In that interview it states that TNA is just liscensed to use the NWA title names. Apparently, they are not affiliated in anyway with the historic NWA that we all know here. I assume that TNA will eventually create their own TNA titles and "break away" from the NWA. I will try to find this interview and post a link.

TNA just throws the name NWA out there to try and give their bullsh** some credibility.

It was my impression that TNA and the NWA had split. That is why they dropped the NWA from NWA/TNA. About a year ago around the time that I saw NWA President (at the time) Bill Behrens (Hope I spelled it correctly) backstage at WWE Pay Per View last December in Atlanta.

Why did WCW hire Jim Herd in 1990?

If I'm not mistaken, the promotion began to be referred to as "TNA Wrestling" as opposed to "NWA TNA" around the same time Panda bought controlling interest in the company from the Jarretts in late 2002. There was no split (although it's been discussed in the past) and the heavyweight and tag team titles are consistently called NWA to this day.
Bill Behrens, during his time as NWA president, was employed by TNA. He eventually left to go work for WWE and took on a position with the Deep South developmental territory. I believe by that time he was no longer president, but nonetheless maintained his NWA membership. He was let go by WWE a few months back. I'm not sure if he is actively promoting again, but he is still an NWA member and at the very least "sanctions" a few promotions that run under the NWA name.
Jim Herd was not hired by WCW in 1990. He was brought in by Jack Petrik, who was the initial president of Universal Wrestling Corp/WCW when Turner bought Jim Crockett Promotions, shortly following the sale in 1988. He used to be station manager at KPLR TV in St. Louis (which aired Wrestling At The Chase) and also supposedly had a hand in the production of Vincent J. McMahon's TV out of DC at one time. He also had worked in the office for the St. Louis Blues and I guess Petrik figured that was qualification enough for him to run the day-to-day operations of a wrestling company. According to Dave Meltzer, Herd didn't even know he was above and could overrule Dusty until Larry Matysik, Muchnick's old right hand man in St. Louis, told him, as he began panicking when Dusty was going to book Flair to lose the title to Rick Steiner in about 5 minutes at Starrcade '88 (Flair agreed to lose, but was going to quit right afterward). Once he was told he was the guy in charge, he nixed that plan and had Flair go over Luger instead.

UNREAL !!!!!!!!!!!! Jim Herd had no idea who was in charge of the company........ No wonder he put the company in the shape it was in........I have always wondered what would have been if Bill Watts had been named booker in 1988 aftre Dusty was relieved of that duty....... However the Flair vs Funk run may have never happened with anyone else booking so I am glad it worked out in that sense......I also heard that Jerry Lawler was considered for the job in late 1988-early 1989.......I think Steve Beverly's Matwatch reported that.....Lawler would have probably been good in that role as well........For my money 1989 and 1986 in that order were the 2 best years to be a WRESTLING fan.....1997 was also an AWESOME year to watch due to the Monday Night War hoopla........
