I must have missed this, but where exactly did the reference of "Hoot" come from as a name for Robert Gibson?

I believe it was from a result of an old timer wrestler by that name. I've wondered why they kept calling him Hoot though. Actually, a stranger question for me is where did "Punky" come from?

I thought Murdock gave 'em the nicknames. Hoot for an old cowboy actor? Punky for his hairstyle? Who knows?

Dusty always refered to Ricky Morton as "Punky", which seems logical to me.

"Hoot" from Hoot Gibson, early movie cowboy. "Punky" from Punky Brewster, as they had similar hairstyles. SOH.

I always wondered if it was related to Brewster. Thanks SOH.

Thank you, Hump. Leave it to a legend to set the record straight.

I think the real reason is because it was always a "hoot" to watch Robert Gibson get his butt whipped by the MX. haha......
