I copied this from PWInsider.com, will this bring anybody on this board back to being wwe fans?
WWE NOTES & NEWS ON JOHN CENA, LEGENDS, RIC FLAIR AND MORE by Mike Johnson @ 12:00:00 PM on 6/20/2005
Brandweek has an article online looking at WWE plans to integrate WWE legends into their programming and marketing. The article noted that 25 names have signed on, there are plans for legends weekends for fans, the names involved will be used to work with retailers and licensees and other plans. WWE Senior Vice President of Consumer Products noted that the plan is to try and lure older fans who no longer watch back into the fold.

in my opinion if they'd have legends weekends they would charge outrageously high prices for tickets to attend the events, my gosh just look at how much ringside tickets for ppv's are.

and also what they need to lure back older fans is actual wrestling and not all the T&A, and certainly not all the matches that are just spot-fests

Nice that the WWE has recognized the success of "Legends" events and will attempt to use them to reconnect with fans that turned off their product years ago.

I hope this doesn't mean another great concept for an event for the fans gets co-opted by big business and they buy up the talent.

It's a money ploy, obviously. I do presently watch the product because it's the only wrestling I can get to see on a regular basis. If they did more with the legends, I would be a lot more excited about watching it, but with Vince involved, there's no telling what kind of fiasco this will wind up being. I'll be hoping for it to be a good thing though.

Looks like another attempt by WWE to monopolize yet another aspect of the business. Hell, he(VM) owns 90% of the tape library that exists ( NWA, WCW, UWF, Mid-South, AWA, WCCW), and probably won't be happy until he owns the industry. Sickening.

Thank you. It sucks to see someone attempt to completely bastardize the sport we all love. I think they're basically stealing Greg Price's idea for a fanfest.... because they know we want to see the legends, and heroes we grew up watching.

I do not think that Vince would have a legends fanfest/reunion. He is more interested in making $$$$ off the legends via WWE 24/7 and DVD sales...

I don't think Vinnie Mac would hold many. I think what he would do is hold 1 or 2 spaced well out and as someone said charge outrageous prices. I could see it now, "come get your picture taken with Doink the Clown, for $99." "Come get the Beverly Brothers autograph, for $49.99." "Hey, one of our slutty Diva contestants will give your teenage son a handjob for $500!"

They should cut you a fat check Greg, for coming up with the idea. Ok...that can only mean 1 thing: It's time to sing along: Ready? here we go: "Jake Jake Jake Jake Jake Jake Jake" ;D

Hey GarvinStomp, how do you really feel? lol . Do I get to pick the diva? lol just kidding.
You gotta think, seeing the success of the legends shows and fanfests over the years the wwe is gonna try something. But you know, most of the talent he would be grabbing would've already been at most fanfests. It was probably Jerry Brisco's idea. lolol Sorry just being mean. lol. I love the Brisco Brothers since I was a kid and always will, but they are good business guys.
Quite frankly, one of the appeals of Greg's fanfests is the intimacy of the event. It usually is just one big wrestling lovefest -- in a manly sort of way.
The WWE would be hard pressed to capture the atmosphere and environment that makes some of these events so special for us longtime fans.
Greg you need a lawyer? lol

>> will this bring anybody on this board back to being wwe fans? Well, it's been a year since this was first posted. In most cases over the last year, the legends brought in (with a few exceptions) have been used to job to the current stars. So no, that doesn't make me a fan. The point of bringing back legends, it would seem to me, would be to revel in the nostalgia and hold them up, kind of like they've done on two occasions with Kevin Von Erich. Those two appearances made the old fans feel good. When I've seen guys like Duggan, Jake Roberts, Kamala, Piper, and others just get squashed, or Harley Race be spat upon, it makes feel really bad. I don't feel bad for them necessarily, they are willing to do it and they get their pay off. It's just a downer. Rather than getting excited about them appearing, I always get this sick feeling in my stomach, like oh no, what are they going to do to him?
