Does anyone have the TV footage of the Hayes/Lugar US title change in Bluefield, VA at the Brushfork Armory? How long did the match last? What was the finishing move used?

I remember the match, but I don't think I have it on tape. Bluefield was where Hayes upset Luger, right? I know Terry Gordy distracted Lex, and Hayes rolled him up from behind (I think) for the win. Luger trashed him when he regained the belt- I think it was a very quick match, best of my recollection.

Actually, Gordy shoved a stunned Hayes on top of Luger who was prone on the mat.

Gordy helped Hayes defeat Luger at Wrestlewar '89 Music City Showdown in Nashville Tennessee on May 7, 1989. Bluefield, WV would've been where Luger won the belt back from Hayes.

The rematch went about ten minutes. I'm pretty sure they didn't even stop for a commercial. Luger regained the belt by reversing a Hayes rollup. Hayes was trying to use the trunks, so Luger grabbed Hayes' trunks and won. The fans went nuts anyway of course, but it was an excellent hint that Luger was about to turn heel - which he soon did at the upcoming Clash of Champions.

I would have that match on VHS. It was on World-Wide wrestling and I was sitting front row. It was a shock for that title change to happen in our little town. Mid-Atlantic Wrestling came to our area every 2 to 3 months... WCW came 1 or 2 times a year and this was the only time it was a TV taping. they did come here after the Flair & Funk Bash ppv and the card was almost match for match a rerun from the ppv. it was excellent and really packed our City Auditorium. I sure miss those days.

May 22, 1989. Only 15 days after Hayes had captured the title, he drops the title This title should of never changed hands through Hayes. This title should of changed hands through Gordy. Setting up Gordy vs. Williams for the US title in 1989. Then Luger turns due to the loss of the title. This gives Gordy the push HE DESERVED along with the push WILLIAMS deserved two years too late. Of course had this occured we may have never seen the MVC in All-Japan. In reality though i'd rather watch Gordy and Williams gain what they had coming to them as workers in the states. Sorry for the rant!!! VR

Gordy was underated because Hayes did all the talking. "Bam Bam" was tough and made a great career in Japan.
