I believe the reason GEORGIA CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING was vastly superior to MID-ATLANTIC WRESTLING was the fact that CROCKET was unable to sign TOMMY RICH to a contract.

Richfan, do you even know what you're talking about! I was always able to watch both organizations growing up. I personally liked them both. I think the reason both were great was due to the constant inter-changing of each organization's talent. I must admit that Rich never was on many old Mid-Atlantic cards. However, I do not think that he made Georgia wrestling superior to Mid-Atlantic. That seems a bit far-fetched of a statement.

It may be far-fetched but it is the truth. The MID-ATLANTIC has gone down hill for a long time and I feel it is time for someone to stand up and let it be known. The GEORGIA CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING is vastly superior to MID-ATLANTIC, Then and Now.

The truth in this case is subject to one's opinion. That said, I may be biased because I grew up in Mid-Atlantic country. That's not to say that Georgia wasn't good, or even better, because I can't judge the two fairly. But Georgia was pretty strong, no doubt about it. Rich, Superstar, Zybyzsko, Anderson, Sawyer, Dibiase, Armstrong, the list goes on and on. The talent was there.
But I can't judge it fairly.

If only Tommy had the brains enough to go anywhere near a gym he wouldve made himself a superstar. He was a good draw in Atlanta but that was it.

"Wildfire" Tommy Rich was so over with the fans in the early 1980s (1980 - 1983) on Georgia Championship Wrestling. I cannot understand why he was given the prestigious NWA World Title for five days in the spring of 1981. Anyhow, he was also big in Mid-Southern in the mid to late 1980s, but by the time he arrived in ECW in the 1990s, he was bloated and a bad manager.

Flairnatic - I liked both Georgia Championship Wrestling and Mid Atlantic Wrestling in the 1980s, but you were incorrect to say "must admit that Rich never was on many old Mid-Atlantic cards."
Here are the match results
April 14th, 1981 Columbia, SC Tommy Rich beats Bobby Duncum
April 28th, 1981 Columbia, SC Tommy Rich defeats Mr. Fuji
May 5th, 1981 Columbia, SC Tommy Rich beats The Iron Sheik
May 19th, 1981 Columbia, SC Gene Anderson/Ole Anderson defeat The Masked Superstar and Tommy Rich
May 26th, 1981 Columbia, SC Tommy Rich/Mr. Wrestling #2 defeat Gene and Ole Anderson by DQ
November 15th, 1981 Greenville, SC Tommy Rich beats Roddy Piper
February 14th, 1982 Asheville, NC Ole Anderson/Stan Hansen beat Ray Stevens/Tommy Rich
February 16th, 1982 Greensboro, NC Tommy Rich pinned The Super Destroyer
March 7th, 1982 Charlotte, NC Jumbo Tsurata and Tommy Rich battled to a double countout
March 25th, 1982 Winston Salem, NC Tommy Rich wrestled Ole Anderson (don't have the match result)
May 9th, 1982 Charlotte, NC Tommy Rich beat Roddy Piper by DQ
While, I admit that Tommy Rich did not have a long run in Mid Atlantic, he did wrestle quite a few matches in the Carolinas in the early 1980s.

Tommy wrestled in Memphis, Georgia, Mid-South, AWA, WCW, ECW, All-Japan, IWA, USWA, Smokey Mountain, Continental, and Southeast, but never a run in the WWF.

To say Wildfire "made" Ga,Champ. Wrestling is a farce! Yeah, to say ANY SINGLE person made a territory is probably a farce, but no one can argue that Rich was one of the hottest babyfaces ever to work Georgia.

I guess you have a point to a degree but his work ethic was aweful. Never hit the gym and was always drinking tons of beer but yes he was hot especially with the young ladies.

I know this was an older thread, does anyone know where/what Tommy is up to today? Last I heard he had lost a bunch of weight and seemed to be working indepedenets occasionally again
