Wathed the Secrets of the Ring tape with Dusty tonight. He recalled how the Mulkeys got their spot in the Crockett Cup by beating....hang on....THE MIDNIGHT EXPRESS. He even described the finish of the Mulkeys big tv win over them. How can one get them confused with the Gladiators?

probably jealous of the recent success the MX are having. oh, dusty is getting it too, but maybe since he is not the one contolling their sucess, he has to make them look bad. just a thought.

I'm glad you noticed this as well. Dusty describes the end of the match with the MX in such detail, he made me wonder whether I was the crazy one!
Thinking back about this, you wonder whether they could have stretched out the Mulkey angle. If the fans were as into this as Dusty claimed, it seems like they missed out on an opportunity by squashing the Mulkeys and never speaking about the "big win" again.

I agree. The angle could have been that the Mulkeys keep getting the snot beat out of them in their matches but then get an upset win because the "favorite" in the match botches a move or something. You know, Cornette tries to hit one of them with the racket but hits Stan instead. Lex accidently trips over Flair with a Mulkey in the torture rack and a Mulkey lands on top. They should never be booked as getting a "clean" win but lots of freakish upsets. They could have been the "giant" killers before Rey Mysterio..

Dusty has always been bad with dates. Most of the top guys from back then traveled so much they are bound to be alittlle fuzzy on dates. I bet Flair had to research a lot before he wrote his book and I think he got a few events wrong.

Most wrestlers forget when stuff happened. And this was about 15-18 years ago and Dusty is getting up their age.

Ive got this from a Bobby Eaton interview where he talks about the Mulkeys Bobby says; -
"Mulkeymania" was a real thing in North Carolina. When Stan and I were together, the Mulkeys were incredibly popular. Normally, when we wrestled guys like the Mulkey Brothers, it was for TV, so you tried to beat them as quickly as possible. Well, one night, we were scheduled to fight them at a house show. It was at the height of their popularity, and the crowd was going nuts for them. So, Stan and I decided to give the fans their money's worth. We decided that instead of beating the Mulkeys in less than five minutes like we usually did, we were going to pound them for forty minutes before pinning one of them. Well, aside from the Mulkeys probably never having wrestled more than five minutes before, they were both in terrible shape. They smoked and I don't think they did any cardio work. So, after ten minutes, they were completely blown up. You know how a wrestler drags himself across the ring to tag his partner after a beating? Well, the Mulkeys were doing that ten minutes into the match just from being completely winded. They were literally crawling after ten minutes just from being tired. Stan and I were hysterical. But, since you bring them up, for the record it should be said the Mulkey Brothers were both a couple of real nice guys. "
