He was in more of a TV production role for Crockett Promotions than a promoter, although I'm sure he had his hands in everything to some extent. I'm not exactly sure when he would have started appearing on TV as announcer, but probably right after he quit wrestling in 1973. He co-hosted Mid-Atlantic Wrestling with Bob Caudle until 1981, when he took over World Wide Wrestling when Rich Landrum left. He was also the co-host of the TBS shows during the Crockett run on TBS from 1985-1988. When the family sold the business to Ted Turner in late 1988, he remained with the new company WCW, I believe until the very end in 2000, as one of the top TV production people with WCW.
