 On May 18, 1973 in St. Louis, Missouri Rip Hawk met Bruno Sammartino. According to magazines back then the winner of that match would receive a World Title shot. Bruno won this match. Then Harley Race beat Dory Funk Jr. for the World Title. On June 15, 1973 Bruno wrestled Harley to a one hour draw in a world title match in St. Louis. According to this clipping Rip Hawk got his title shot anyway. |

"The Ripper" also had a World Heavyweight Title match at the Charlotte Coliseum.
At that time, GENE KINISKI was the champ.

I would have loved to have seen Rip vs. Kiniski.
I did get to see Rip wrestle Dory Funk Jr. for the
World title in 1971 at the Winston-Salem Coliseum.
Bolo, did Rip get a title shot at Buddy Rogers in
Charlotte?That would be another dream match
for me.
