What do you all remember about this team? How long did they stay in the area? For some reason I remember it being a "short run" but exciting run.

The Infernos with manager JC Dykes did regular tours of the Crockett territory from 1967-70.They drew very well against teams like George Becker and Johnny Weaver,George and Sandy Scott,Tex McKenzie and Nelson Royal and Bobby Red Cloud and Chief Little Eagle.Using the loaded boot against these teams got them a lot of heat.
They also feuded with Bronco Lubich,Aldo Bogni and manager Homer O'Dell in 1967.During one of those matches I saw in Winston-Salem,Homer O'Dell was cheered for the first time (maybe the only time in my memory) when he and JC Dykes went at it.
After Tex McKenzie left JCP at the end of 1967,Nelson Royal was without a regular partner. In 1968 Nelson teamed up with Paul Jones. They also had a great feud with the Infernos.

Thanks cwh47. I remember their feud with Royal and Jones. Didn't Jones' debut match with JCP occur during a TV match with the Infernos?

You may be right on that Weaverlock.Paul Jones may very well have made his TV debut against the Infernos. I may be able to confirm that in the future as I find more old TV Guides from that period.
Did the West Virginia edition of TV Guide provide match listings back then?

Ah, THE INFERNOS.
I could talk about them all day long.
Next to THE BOLOS (naturally), one of my top 3 or 4 teams of ALL TIME...
Frankie, Rocky, and J.C. had INCREDIBLE heat!
And, thank goodness, NEVER were unmasked, just like THE BOLOS.

I always loved it when J.C. would give one or the other Inferno a sip of water from the canteen he carried to ringside. It often seemed to get into the ring action. I also seem to remember J.C. carrying what appeared to be a fishing sinker on a watchchain that he used on opponents.

When I was a kid I used to sneak back towards the heels dressing room in Greenville, SC to get an autograph and as I was doing this one night Frankie jumped out from behind the doors and I didnt see him and he scared the living sh** out of me. Later on when he was The Great Mephisto I reminded him of that in the dressing room in Macon, Ga. Same night he beat the living crap out of Mr. Wrestling#2 in the dressing room. #2 started it and Frankie finished it. I enjoyed it!
