My dad found this old photo of the old coliseum in Winston Salem, NC. He attended his first show there on May 13, 1965. He started taking me to shows there in 1978 and on into the 80's. What a grand old building it was and a great place to see wrestling!

The Lawrence Joel Coliseum now stands where the old Coliseum was.The photo you see above was taken in the early 60's and you can see a larger copy of this at the Forsythe County Public Library.
The Wake Forest basketball team played their home games in the old coliseum also but they needed a larger building as 8500 was the quoted capacity for basketball.I believe Lawrence Joel holds 14,500 for basketball.

You are correct. Lawrence Joel Memorial Coliseum holds about 14000 for Wake Forest University men's college basketball. It is a great venue for college basketball. I guess the old Coliseum was razed back in the late 1980s to make way for this new one? I think that the Forsyth County Fair is held there as well.
It reminds me of when World Class held their Cotton Bowl extravaganza each October in collaboration with the state fair of Texas.

If I am correct the old Coliseum is still there but now is called the Coliseum annex. I started attending shows there when I was 2 or 3 yrs. old which was around 72 or 73. The earliest match that I have any recolection of from there was Ole and Gene Anderson vs George and Sandy Scott. Great Wrestling Building.

Hammer You are wrong. The annex is not the old coliseum. It was built the same time as the Lawrence Joel.

I know it wasn't torn down when the new one was built, because they hosted the minor league hockey and held public skating. It may not be there now (its been a little while since I was there).
