Hi All. I am new here and have a question you guys may know the answer to. This guy wrestled between 1969-73, I believe. From what I remember, I think he used a regular name such as "Billy Jones". He was known for getting out of holds and the announcers frequently referred to him as a "magician" at getting out of holds. One technique he used was when he was being pinned he would tap on his opponents shoulder. The opponent would think it was the ref stopping the count . The opponent then would uncover the wrestler actually stopping the 3 count. I was probably between the age of 8-10, but he was one of my favorites at the time. It kills me that I can't remember who he is, I couldn't even tell you what he looked like. I watched him on WTVR-6 out of Richmond Va on saturday mornings, I believe it was Mid-Atlantic Wrestling then. Thanks for any help answering this for me.

Everything about this...the name being a "regular" name and the "magician" comment as well as the tapping the opponent on the shoulder to avoid a pin sounds like Johnny "Rubberneck" Walker. He later went on to fame as Mr. Wrestling #2. But, I don't think he was in JCP during that time frame....I think he was in Florida but my memory could be faulty.

Thanks for the response. I was reading some interviews on midatlanticgateway.com and Johnny "Rubberneck" Walker's name popped up. By the description it sounded like him, your response kind of reinforces this. I never knew he went on to become Mr. Wrestling #2.
I remember I was in 2nd or 3rd grade and they were teaching us wrestling in gym class. I was doing Walker's(?) trick where he would lift one shoulder up as he was getting pinned. When my opponent tried to push that arm down, I popped the other one up and it just went on and on, just like it did for Walker. The gym teacher screamed at me "that's not how you wrestle!". I said "well how come he can't pin me?" He just yelled "stop doing that!". I did and I got pinned. Thanks again for the response, Sully

"Rubber Man" was actually the nickname of Johnny Walker, I believe.
And, yes, Johnny "Rubber Man" Walker aka Mr. Wrestling II will be at Fanfest in August.

Earlier, Sully said: I was reading some interviews on Midatlanticgateway.com and Johnny "Rubberneck" Walker's name popped up. I promise you that no interview on the Gateway mentioned Johnny " Rubberneck" Walker.
