Thanks to Brad Anderson and some wonderful memorabilia he let us borrow, we have posted a new feature on the Gateway surrounding three interesting cards with a great angle and storyline that took place in Richmond VA in late spring 1972 involving the Anderson Brothers, Johnny Weaver, Rip Hawk, Swede Hanson, Gary Hart, and Art Nelson. These include notes from Gene Anderson's private journal for that year, a rare and special treat for all of us to see. Check out the Anderson Brothers Classic for this unique look back. Also, don't miss the photos we posted from Gene Anderson's personal collection, again compliments of his son Brad. Love those old Mid-Atlantic tag team title belts.

I had already seen the pictures earlier. It's got to be one of the first times that I've seen them with the Mid Atlantic belts since I was a kid. Great pictures.
Just read the article. I'd love to see the notes on the "Ultimate Sacrifice" and the years as World Tag champs.
I'm glad that Brad is sharing his father's stuff with us. It's a shame that he never got the shot to carry on the Minnestota Wrecking Crew. I always wonder what would have happened if he had teamed with Ole's son.

Thanks guys.
Kyle, I know what you mean about those photos with the Mid-Atlantic tag belts. They were the first ones I had seen with them. I don't believe there are any in the Mid-Atlantic magazines; just the WTT straps. So these were special.
Regarding the journals, unfortunately, Brad only found two of them in his Dad's stuff after he died. One from 1971 and the other from 1972. There are so many things Anderson related I would love to know more about or to see Gene's notes on, including stuff in Georgia. But we treasure these journals that we are fortunate to have, and thank Brad for letting us see them and include them on the website.
Brad Anderson is a genuinely good guy and wants so much for people to remember his Dad and the Andersons, and the whole Minnesota Wrecking Crew deal. He's had some really good matches lately, very entertaining. He come to the ring holding Gene's trademark boots high over his head. Any Mid-Atlantic fan from the mid-70s has to love that. His match with Jason Jones in Spartanburg was praised by everyone on that show. He had a great match with David Flair in Gaffney, even weaving in some of the Flair/Anderson history to his pre-match promo which I was marking out for. He and George South worked well together in the Anderson Brothers Classic tournament last December. And I believe he is going to be wrestling George at the CWA show in Statesville on 6/18, and knowing George and how much he loved Gene, and the recent nostalgia tour his matches have been lately, this match could really be fun.
Kyle, you and Tonya need to come join us!

Thanks RMF - we're going to have fun at the CWA show on 6/18. Brad will be bringing THE boots!
Noodle Poodle, you need to make this show, too. Aren't you coming up for the CWF show that Friday night to see Johnny Weaver? Come join us Saturday night in Statesville!

Dadgum it, Baltimore Jack. You KNOW I want to come to Statesville, but I just don't see it happening this time around. I'll have to head on back home. But you know I'll be thinking about ya'll and what fun you are having.
And on the flip side - can't I get you to come to Burlington on the 17th and join me, Weaver, the Kernodles, Boogie and Uncle Ivan??

For an outdoor show? Not a chance! I'm such a big baby, but it's no fun to just sit there and sweat!

I agree with B. JACK.

And yes, I've had many "interesting" phone calls lately.

Gene Anderson had an awesome hand grip...he would often come into the dressing room and shake hands with someone that was "supposed" to be strong and bring them to their knees. He got me once and that was enough. I personally saw him put Angelo Mosca on his knees at WRAL in Raleigh. RIP Gene!
