Not long ago, we all admired two photographs (from Patsy Hughes’ collection) of WGHP wrestling host Charlie Harville with Rip Hawk and Swede Hanson, as well as Johnny Weaver and George Becker. Wayne Brower, a wrestling historian and enthusiast (who I wish we could get posting on this board) has written a terrific article on Charlie Harville for the Mid-Atlantic Gateway. The article covers his broadcasting career in general and wrestling broadcasting career in detail. The article will include some amazing photographs taken during wrestling TV tapings at WGHP and some interesting memorabilia as well. Wayne interviewed members of the Harville Family, some of Harville’s friends and colleagues, and even Rip Hawk! Greensboro/High Point/Winston-Salem area fans who remember Charlie Harville from TV 8 wrestling in the 60s and 70s, as well as a ring announcer in many local arenas, will absolutely love this article. And if you are a fan of Mid-Atlantic TV wrestling in general, this will be great reading. I’m formatting it now, and will have it on the Gateway by Friday 3/18.

Great article. Recommended reading material for anyone who grew up in the Piedmont viewing area. Thanks Wayne.

I read this article during my lunch break at work today. I couldn't wait to e-mail Wayne Brower to thank him for this. The photos and clippings were fantastic. If Charlie was still with us I bet he would be grinning from ear to ear like he always did on the show. Thanks again Wayne and thank you Baltimore Jack.
