In my ongoing work on the TV history section of the Mid-Atlantic Gateway, I came across these names and photos in a 1961 Crockett Promotions program. If anyone has any information or memories of either of these two gentlemen, please let us know here, or via e-mail to the Gateway. Thanks!

Some info I received by e-mail from Wayne Brower on Ray Reeve -
"I believe that you had a question on the message board about Ray Reeve. Ray was considered a pioneer sports broadcaster in the Raleigh area from around 1940 to the early 1970s. He was the voice of NC State basketball and football for several years around the time of Coach Everette Case. As far as I know, he was the first broadcaster inducted to the NC Sports Hall of Fame. I am not familiar with Mr. Reeve broadcasting wrestling, as my first recollections of Raleigh broadcasts were being hosted by Nick Pond. Mr. Reeve was a mentor to my favorite sports broadcaster - Charlie Harville - who just happened to be the second broadcaster inducted into the Hall in 1997."

.....and charlie harvile was himself a pioneer in NC as well. he was on top of the sports at WGHP and then onto WFMY for many years shortly after local tv came to this area until he retired in the '80's. he was a part of the first broadcast of the old GGO golf tournaments in greensboro. and from the way he told it, he was partly responsible for the broadcast.

Ray Reeve is talked about all through the site www.ramfanatic.com. It's a site about UNC Basketball Do the site search and it will come up with 10-12 pages that mentions him.

Bob Caudle had some nice things to say about Ray Reeve in a recent conversation while working on the upcoming TV feature. The more I research Mr. Reeve, the more I find out what a pioneer in North Carolina sports and broadcasting he was.

Had the pleasure of a brief interview with Bill Krieger last night. Bill (seen in the photo at the top of this thread) was sports director for WFBC TV in Greenville SC in the late 50s and early 60s and hosted the wrestling program that was taped there from late 50s to 1962. Got some good info about the live TV tapings done at WFBC, including some interesting insights on Jim Crockett, Sr., Wally Dusek and and the original Gorgeous George, who wrestled on one of the WFBC TV tapings in the late 50s. All of this and more will be included in an upcoming TV history feature on the Mid-Atlantic Gateway.
