I agree.
JOHNNY WEAVER was the man.
WHen a heel worked a main event program with JOHNNY, it meant they had arrived in JCP.

Id say Weaver. I remember him being consistantly in the main event for years, either alone or with a multitude of partners.
I always loved the heels and seeing them go up against Weaver meant I was going to see a long hard fought, brutal and often extremely bloody match.
The lights out matches that Weaver had against Art Nelson in the early 70's remain my all time favorites.

The lights out matches that Weaver had against Art Nelson in the early 70's remain my all time favorites. I was only 9 or 10 years old when these matches were going on. I "hated" Art Nelson. When Weaver ended up needing him as a partner (Art slowly was turning face), I didn't trust him for a minute. The funny thing is that when Art turned heel on Weaver again (during feud v. Royal Kangaroos I think) I turned with him and have been a heel fan ever since. Then, I started liking guys that could cut good promos against Weaver like the Super Destryoyer (Don Jardine) and Black Jack Mulligan.

You sure you don't mean 59 years old? ;D Anyway I vote for Weaver. True legend of the MACW area, heck was still over in 1987 when he managed Rhodes!

Hello everyone! As you can tell by my handle I've been a BIG Johnny Weaver fan since 1967.
To me he was the ultimate "babyface".

Weaver is the man! When Weaver was in the main event, you can bet you got your moneys worth! Not like the "two minute" matches of today. I also think they were better with the mike back then.

Where would George Becker fit in?

By the time that Johnny Weaver became a top challenger for the World title, George Becker was in his fifties and had enjoyed many years as the top guy in JCP.Looking back I believe he really enjoyed his role as the veteran helping the young guy to get to the top. Many times in tv interviews George would talk about his hopes that Johnny Weaver would someday be World Champion.

Considering JCP was mostly known as tag-team turf up until the Scott era it's hard to pin the tail on one solo standout, imo.
But, Weaver and Becker could be considered, or would take the cake prior to 1974.

Turn that question around a little bit. Who was the heel leader? I suspect that most will say Hawk or the Mauler, but I'm just curious to see the responses.
