I discovered JCP wrestling Thanksgiving week 1961 on a visit to Andrews,NC.I watched it with my Uncle Frank. At the time we could only get WFMY 2 and WSJS 12 out of Greensboro and Winston-Salem and neither aired wrestling. When we got back home I turned our old antenna by hand while my brothers tried the other channels. That is how I found we could get WBTV 3 and WDBJ 7 from Charlotte and Roanoke respectively. On Oct.14,1963 WGHP 8 from High Point came on the air. I was very excited when they started airing wrestling with Charlie Harville as host.
These are the three shows I watched in the sixties.I could not receive the Raleigh show at that time. What I have always wondered is before using syndication if there were any other local shows in VA,NC and SC that used the Crockett wrestlers besides these four shows. Merry Christmas to everyone!

cwh, I love your stories about turning the antenna and the others you've told about hand-cranking that big old satellite dish. We'll do what needs to be done to pull in our wrestling!

Thanks Baltimore Jack.Luckily the old antenna we had was mounted on a pole that went all the way to the ground and attached to the eave at the rear of our house. My wife bought me an antenna with amp and rotor for our first anniversary in 1973.After that I could receive the Raleigh show.

Growing up in Spartanburg SC I always saw the sat afternoon show on channel 4 from Greenville. If the weather was co-operative, I could get the one from Charlotte with Big Bill ward once or twice a month. (always very grainy tho)
Those really were the days....

Saturday night at 11:30, I was not in bed, not watching Saturday Night Live or even Will C's Red Eye Cinema. I was watchin Channel 5 and by-gum Mid Atlantic rasslin. Boy I'd love to relive those years. Wonder if Mr. Peabody left the plans for the Wayback Machine lyin around when he retired?
