I was watching the Heroes of World Class DVD yesterday (must see for 1980s World Class Championship Wrestling fans) and when they talked about the early 1986 timeframe they mentioned that Atlanta-based Jim Crockett Promotions did not want Ric Flair to travel to Dallas or Fort Worth in early 1986 to defend the NWA World title against Chris Adams, Kevin Von Erich, Kerry Von Erich, Iceman Parsons, Rick Rude, etc.
When did Crockett move his base of operations from Charlotte to Atlanta? I thought he was based in Charlotte until late 1988 when he sold to Turner. Did he move from Charlotte to Atlanta in the spring of 1985 when Georgia Championship Wrestling merged with Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling?

Georgia Championship Wrestling didn't "merge" with Mid-Atlantic. Vince McMahon bought Georgia Championship in '84 and apparently dissolved the corp. The promotion that Crockett Promotions basically absorbed was Championship Wrestling from Georgia, which started airing on TBS shortly after Vince's takeover of GCW and "World Championship Wrestling".
The office for Crockett Promotions was located at 421 Briarbend Dr. in Charlotte and they later moved into the office Bill Watts had in Dallas following the UWF buyout in 1987. In Flair's book, David Crockett says they had the whole floor and also took over the lease on the building. It's also stated in the book that they left the office in Charlotte behind after that, but I don't believe that's correct. The Charlotte address is listed on all the State sites that have JCP in their corporate database and Jim Crockett also used that address when he was an officer with WCW.
Fwiw, David Crockett also comments that the state of North Carolina was against the sale to Turner and didn't want them to relocate to Atlanta...
