In the early 1960s, Capitol Wrestling, headed by Vince Sr., left the NWA. (probably winter of 1963 when Buddy Rogers was crowned the champ).
In the early 1970s (not sure what year), the WWWF joined the NWA. Several WWWF wrestlers and MACW wrestlers would be on cards, in the 1970s, and 1980s, in Miami, Toronto, etc.
Why did the WWWF join the NWA in the early 70s?

I think there's some debate as to whether they actually left to begin with. It seems like they just wanted to have their own champion that they could control independant from the NWA and Muchnick and Co. allowed them to do so. It's also possible that the DOJ's investigation of the NWA's monopoly may have also had something to do with it. It would take some heat off of the NWA if it appeared that there was a "rival" sanctioning body out there recognizing a different champion.
As to why they "rejoined", if that was indeed the case, it seems that there would be a mutual benefit. The NWA benefited tremendously by having the largest market/ territory in the country as part of the fold, supplying talent to other members when necessary, while McMahon had the benefit of being an NWA member and having their support in the event some "outlaw" attempted to invade his territory. Everything revolved around politics and who could do what for whom.
