I believe that the Warlord debuted in the summer of 1986 with Baby Doll as his manager.

The Warlord, with Baby Doll, was in the first match I saw when we got WTBS. Southeastern Ohio was slow in the cable market. I couldn't remember if it was 85 or 86.

Warlord debuted in June of 1986 as a babyface monster ala the Road Warriors, managed by Babydoll. The first record I have for him is 6/14/86 on Mid-Atlantic Wrestling and World Wide Wrestling and on TBS.

But when did Baby Doll turn heel?
Did she continue to manage the Warlord (as a heel himself?)
Or did they just part ways without explanation?

Baby Doll was a heel in 1985 when she managed Tully Blanchard. She turned babyface in 1986 and managed Dusty Rhodes & The Warlord.

Babydoll turned heel again on the August 23, 1986 World Wide Wrestling, turning on Rhodes during the NWA title match between Flair and Rhodes in Charlotte.
(That was quite a show for the heels. Babydoll turned heel to help Flair keep his title, embracing Flair and also Tully Blanchard at ringside after the match. The next match, Nikita Koloff beat Magnum TA in the final match of the best-of-seven series. Bad day for America's Team! ;D)
Warlord, by proxy I suppose, turned heel as Babydoll did. I don't remember a specific turn or angle, he was just a heel since Babydoll was now a heel. On the 9/6/86 TBS World Championship Wrestling show, Babydoll announced she was taking Warlord to the Central States territroy, which was now being run by Crockett. She left for KC (along side sweetheart Sam Houston who was to be the top babyface in Central States) and didn't return regularly until coming back at the end of 1987 with Larry Zybysko, confronting Dusty Rhodes about some photos she had of him, an angle that was never followed up on. I don't think she was around in 1987 until then, if she was, I certainly don't remember it.

[...] Warlord, by proxy I suppose, turned heel as Babydoll did. But, according to this thread, Warlord took on Big Bubba Rogers on August 30. Would this be due to a delay in the broadcast of Baby Doll's heel turn? Or does this suggest that Warlord wasn't an automatic heel (yet)?

I'm guessing the match was booked well before the turn, and perhaps Babydoll wasn't even with Warlord that night if he was still a babyface, because after the turn aird on TV 8/23 (taped in Charlotte 8/17), she had major heat!

I remember at the end of 1986 they ran an angle where Baby Doll filled in as manager of the Midnight Express while Jim Cornette had knee surgery from the infamous Starrcade 86 scaffold bump......I can remember a localized Omni card promo where she said that she was a business woman and even though she and Cornette had problems in the past she wanted to make money first....... Didn't last long at all, and I am not sure they made it to the TV shows with her at ringside, but I do remember Tony Schiavone talking about it on the air .......
