I was watching the October 1983 Mid Atlantic TV Taping from Shelby, NC when I saw Ric Flair coming from the dressing room weilding a metal baseball bat. It is on the Ric Flair DVD that WWE put out. He tried to take out Bob Orton's legs and Dick Slater's head with it. What is priceless is that this fan gets a little too excited and starts following Bob Orton back to the dressing room. This security guard comes out of nowhere and pulls him back into the crowd. The guy grabs his shirt as though the guard tore it! Priceless!!

Yes, indeed. I saw Flair and Orton wrestle about two, three weeks after that at a house show. Tore the place down. Man was it hot. Orton had a ton of heat on him, and everybody wanted to see Natch rip him a new ... you know what.

It was the Culpeper show. Flair bled heavily. Orton walked out and got counted out after about 20 minutes. Tommy Young told me that he has photos from this match that my brother sent him of Tommy holding Flair back from going after Orton following the match.
Flair's face was a crimson mask.

Dang, it seems I saw the same match in Fayettville about this time. Maybe it was Slater and Flair. Not sure. Slater and Valentine seemed to draw big heat in this time period.

It is interesting that Valentine lost the US Title to Slater in December 1983 but both men drew great heat in the summer and fall of 1983 (Valentine injured Piper and Slater injured Flair that spring/summer).
