How many of you who were big Weaver fans found themselves becoming big Wahoo fans? I know I did. Wahoo took over the lead babyface role for me within the promotion.
Some would probably argue that Jones or Steamboat (Ricky) took over that role, but for me it was Wahoo.
Think about it......name another wrestler who was involved in more big angles or who launched the careers of new lead heels entering into the area than Wahoo?
Your thoughts....please.

I, too, loved Wahoo. He really helped spark the territory.
But I was ALWAYS a Johnny Weaver fan, and still am.

6/6/84..dorton arena tv taping. he stood there and watched blanchard give flair his behind durign a promo. after blanchard left, flair fussed at wahoo asking why he didn't help. i never saw this on tv so i don't know what wahoo said. by the next two weeks, wahoo had gradually changed and was a heel fighting steamboat for the US title and won it from him. he then started teaming with blanchard (a really good team, too). weeks later on Championship Wrestling from Georgia on TBS, wahoo was standing with ronnie garvin. as the promo progressed, wahoo knocked garvin in the head with the us title. eventually, wahoo was stripped of the title in august for "abusive " behavior against flair in a match in greensboro. the tourney was held on 10/7/84 in charlotte. wahoo beat manny fernandez in the final match to regain the title. wahoo lost the us belt to TA on 3/25/85 in charlotte in a very good cage match. he later drifted away to florida as a babyface and when he returned to MACW, the hell days were completely forgotten like it never happened.

[glow=red,2,300]I was a big Weaver fan. I used to watch him and Paul Jones wrestle and I thought they made a great team. As far as launching careers though both face and heel you have got to admit that Blackjack had a lot to do with introducing new talent too. [/glow]

wahoo lost the us belt to TA on 3/25/85 in charlotte in a very good cage match. I was at that one!! ;D That was a great match, and was gonna be my example of when Wahoo was a heel. Though it was apparently a brief heel run. He was a great one either way though. As for Weaver, I never got to see him wrestle (he retired before I started watching), but he did some commentating at a couple events and whatnot, plus having got to meet and speak with him here at work, he's a heck of a guy. The last time I saw him here though he was talking about retiring from the sheriff's department. I sure will miss seeing him on occasion if he does.

well, the heel turn began in 6/84 and wahoo was a heel here until the late spring of '85, i think it was. that's the better part of a year.

Johnny was the face of his era and Wahoo could go either way ...in or out of the ring. Wahoo was on his his to a TV taping in Ga at 8am on a Sat. morning and had been out drinking all night and rammed his caddy into the median on 285in Atlanta. They took him to the hospital and was gonna numb him up because he cut his mouth really bad and he told the doc I dont need that sh** and sew me up. The Doc did and it took 37 stitches to close the wound and he had to work twice that morning ..once with Flair and the other guy I dont remember. Wahoo was a tough SOB....RIP Chief

I remember Wahoo turning bad. I was nine and it almost broke my heart. I was so glad to see Magnum take the U.S. title from him. If I'm not mistaken Wahoo left not long after that and went to Florida. Then he came back a little while later as a good guy and it was like it never happened. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, because my memory isn't what it used to be.

It wasnt quite like nothing had ever happened. Wahoo sent a video from FL regarding Dusty asking his help. He acknowledged his wrongdoing from his heel days and the need to make amends. It wasnt as kiss ass as Paul's promo in 81 was when he came back as a face but that makes sense given Wahoo's harder image.
