----- Sorry that I don't have the rest of the results from 1982 or 1981 but these Thanksgiving cards were great. Did they have big Thanksgiving shows before 1975? I added the Christmas show from 1978 because I thought it was a better show than the Thanksgiving one from 1978. If the thanksgiving show was the biggest show of the year, why was the X-mas show stacked more in 1978? One final question, the article (Thanks Mid-Atlantic Gateway) for the 11-23-78 show lists the attendance as being 13, 447. Since exactly 2 thousand would be a sellout, was that a typo and it was actually sold out?
Thanks.

Phinney, To answer your question about Thanksgiving cards prior to 1975,yes there were big cards. The card held in Greensboro in 1972 held the attendance record in the Southeast until the US tournament in 1975.
On Nov.23,1972 over 13,000 fans were in Greensboro to see Jack and Jerry Brisco beat Dory Funk Sr. and Jr.
Thunderbolt Patterson beat Ole Anderson in a lumberjack match.
On Thanksgiving night Nov.22,1973 there were two cards that night, one in Greensboro the other in Charlotte. The combined attendance went over the 20,000 mark.
Jack Brisco successfully defended the NWA title against Dory Funk Jr. in Greensboro.Lou Thesz was the special referee.
Johnny Weaver lost to Johnny Valentine in the main event in Charlotte.

Shows were indeed a tradition on Thanksgiving in Greensboro, but weren't necessarily intended to be the "biggest shows of the year". Up until Starrcade, there was also always a Thanksgiving show on Thanksgiving night in Norfolk, too, which may answer why a show wasn't as "stacked" on Thanksgiving.
As I look at cards through out the George Scott years, I'm not sure the Thanksgiving shows stand out as special shows more than other shows through-out the year, with a few exceptions.
There really was not a "super card" mentality then. that came more in the 80s (at least as I see it.)

I don't think stacked cards were what we were looking for anway. Which starcade was it, 86 maybe, that they had the matches in G'boro and Atlanta? I was in attendance in G'boro and could have done without the satellite shows. Just my opinion. I think it was this same card in G'boro that sold out and even sold out the theater room with all matches on the big screen. Merry Christmas to all!

I agree with this completely. "Stacked cards" never really crossed my mind then. You wanted a couple of good main events that settled or extended current issues. I miss those days. When those events paid off on their own, they were so special, and stood out above everything else.
