Is there anyone out there that witnessed any of the matches between Ric Flair and Ole Anderson?
I would love to know if they were any good or not. I never hear much about how this fued was. The first thing I remember was the potential for an all out war between the two.
I recall reading one of the results of a card back in '81 was that Ole lost to Ric by the use of the piledriver. I just can't imagine Ole having the piledriver put on him!!

Ole and Ric's family feud actually goes back to late 1976 when Ric took Greg Valentine as a partner and challenged his cousins Ole and Gene for their World Tag team title belts, which they won the last week of 1976. They continued to feud in 1977 with the Andersons regaining the titles later that spring inside a cage with Wahoo McDaniel as special referee. When that match was over, Flair and Valentine used a spike piledriver on Ole putting him briefly out of action. This was a big deal at the time because you didn’t see moves like a spike piledriver very often, so when you did they really had impact.
In the summer of 1981, Flair and Ole started a bitter singles feud, with Flair chasing Ole around with a baseball bat, resulting in Flair being barred from buildings. He would still show up, buy his own ticket and then charge the ring again with the bat. Ivan Koloff was Ole’s partner at this time, and there were some good tag team matches between Ole and Ivan and Ric and various partners including Wahoo McDaniel.
Later that year in September, Ric won the NWA title for the first time and one of his first contenders in the Mid-Atlantic territory was Ole Anderson. They had straight matches, as well as Texas Bullrope matches and Bunkhouse matches.
I saw Ric wrestle Ole in a Texas Bullrope match at the Charlotte Coliseum on Labor Day weekend 1981. Dusty Rhodes defended the NWA title that same night against Greg Valentine. During the local TV promos before that card, Dusty appeared with Ric in the promos and Ric claimed Dusty had been training him on how to use the bullrope effectively in the match. I remember hating that! First, I didn’t want Ric being buddies with Dusty (I wanted him to beat him for that belt!), and second, why do you need training in a bullrope match? Just whack Ole in the head with that cowbell and drag him around the ring! ;D Everything worked out okay, however, as Ric won the bullrope match that night in Charlotte and beat Dusty two weeks later for the NWA title!

I appreciate this information a bunch!!
Allow me to slip in a couple of other Ole fueds!! Some of his last great fueds were I believe in Georgia. They were between "Big Boss Man" and "Precious Paul Ellering". I believe Paul Ellering and Ole actually got into it on TV some. But I don't think that Ole and Boss Man ever got into it except in matches.

I certainly remember the Ric / Greg vs Gene / Ole feud, particularly the Anderson's interview they did from an injured Gene's "hospital room."

This is the card BJ mentioned in its entirety.
Ron Richie D El Toro Jake Roberts D Sgt Goulet Paul Jones D Jimmy Valiant (Still in King James heel mode) WORLD TITLE Dusty Rhodes D Greg Valentine DQ BULL ROPE Ric Flair D Ole Anderson Wahoo McDaniel & Ron Bass D Roddy Piper & Abdullah The Butcher DQ
The most surprising thing about this card is probably that Greg got out with a DQ loss to Dusty. I wont swear it but I believe this was Dusty's only Charlotte defense. You would think he would insist on a clean win especially since there was no ongoing angle with Greg.

You speak of that Summer '81 feud. IIRC, this stimmed off a feud between Ric and Ivan, as well, as they met numerous times where they could only wrestle on the same show if they were facing each other. They were each barred from the arena if the other one was there, but not wrestling each other.

Guys I would to get ahold of that Buffalo strap match...tell me how. I saw Ric defend the NWA belt against Ole in Richmond in late 1982. Ric got a clean pic if I recall correctly, against Ole who had Gene in his corner.

I also have that Flair-Ole strap match. There is also a tag with Ole + Luger vs Flair + Tully in a cage that I have from 88'.

I thought Ole's last match in Mid-Atlantic/Georgia was in the summer of 1987 vs. The Barbarian.

Ole had some great battles with Ric Flair in singles and six man tag team matches back in 1982 when Flair was NWA World Champion. I am surprised how many times Flair wrestled in six man tag matches, in the Carolinas, when he was NWA Champ...
January 3rd, 1982 Roanoke, VA Ric Flair beat Ole Anderson by DQ
January 8th, 1982 Cincinnati, OH Ric Flair defeated Ole Anderson in a Texas Death Match
February 5th 1982 Columbia, SC Ric Flair vs. Ole Anderson (do not have a match result for this bout)
March 20th or 28th, 1982 Charlotte, NC Sgt. Slaughter/Ole Anderson/Stan Hansen beat Ric Flair/Rick Steamboat/Jake Roberts
April 3rd, 1982 Greensboro, NC Ric Flair/Jack Brisco/Jerry Brisco beat Stan Hansen/Ole Anderson/Gene Anderson
April 4th or 5th, 1982 Asheville, NC Ole Anderson/Stan Hansen/Sgt. Slaughter beat Ric Flair/Blackjack Mulligan Jr. (Barry Windham)/Ray Stevens
April 5th, 1982 Greenville, SC Ric Flair/Jerry Brisco/Jack Brisco beat Ole Anderson/Gene Anderson/Stan Hansen
April 9th, 1982 Richmond, VA Sgt. Slaughter/Ole Anderson/Stan Hansen beat Ric Flair/Paul Jones/Jake Roberts
April 18th, 1982 Asheville, NC Ric Flair beat Ole Anderson

I thought Ole's last match in Mid-Atlantic/Georgia was in the summer of 1987 vs. The Barbarian. no, he returned for the Omni match in early 88 that I previously mentioned. Then of course, he returned once again in late 89 and was back in the ring for a few months.

>> I thought Ole's last match in Mid-Atlantic/Georgia was in the summer of 1987 vs. The Barbarian. I don't remember Ole coming back in mid-87 and working Barbarian. Where was that supposed to have happened? (Not saying it didn't happen, I just don't recall it.) They did the angle kicking him out of the Horsemen in early 1987, when Luger came in. And then as SSteward mentions he came back either Christmas night or New Years night at the OMNI to save Luger from a Horsemen beating. (The place went nuts when Ole hit the ring, a major surprise, and one of my favorite later Ole moments, despite Luger being involved, lol.) That 1989-1990 WCW comeback was amazing in that he and Arn had some brutal matches with the Steiner brothers. The Steiners were wrestling in that super-stiff, cutting edge (for the time) style of brutal clotheslines and wicked suplexes. I was always impressed that Ole, at that age, was hanging in there with them. One tough old son-of-a-gun. (Sorry, I am way off topic here.)

far as '87, you might have been thinking of the feud between ole anderson and big bubba rogers. remember, it was a cage match the two had that help be a feature match at the Crockett Cup '87 in baltimore on 4/10/87. so it was a pretty big deal at the time.
