I was just listening to an old episode of Byte This from 01-05-05 and he made some interesting comments. The ones that stuck out in my mind are in regards to Wrestlemania 1 and how huge the hype for it became.
He said "Ya know, Vince was the only guy that ever took a gamble, and these old southern people down there, I don't, you know even though I came from the south I'm not one of their good ole boys from the south. Uh, quite honestly, there was only one place that I would take claim to, and that I was treated right and that was at New York for Vince McMahon. Case Closed."
I don't really remember Paul Orndorff much when I was little down here but what is the story with this? Does anyone know? I thought he had a good run with Snuka and such. To be honest, it kind of offended me and pissed me off. It was like he was slamming the south in general.

Could he be speaking more of Mid-South or Georgia? He had stints there as well.

I don't know but it really sounded like he hated it down here.

It's sad if he is knocking the south, I read somewhere a long time ago that he owned a chain of bowling alleys in Georgia. I saw a picture of him once in a wrestling magazine standing next to a Rolls Royce. Worked picture?

Paul is one of these people whom you meet you never know if he's gonna be nice or an a-hole. Inside the dressing room or not. If he's puttin down the SOUTH then By God dont ever come back!

Well if those ignorant southern fans hadnt made him so much money, Vince would never have known his name. He got his first huge break in MACW teaming with Jimmy Snuka as World Tag Champs. MACW, Mid South, Florida and especially Georgia made him a name VInce would even consider hiring. Your welcome O P

Orndorff became a prima donna so to speak after a certain point. He's bitter in general in regards to many things within wrestling.
I think WCW soured him a lot as well, go figure.

its funny i listened to that interview as well. i had met him in 94 and he was totally opposite from the interview. we talked for about an hour and he talked about how great it was working for jcp and with jimmy snuka in general.he said he learned so much from snuka.i he talked about how evil hogan and vince were. but he made more money working hogan than anyone but said he was an asshole to work with. i wonder what changed things for him from when i met him until the interview.

Slightly off topic, but I thought Ornforff should have held the WWF Intercontinental Title at some point in the mid 80's. Even if it were only for a brief period of time. Hard to believe he held no titles during his 80's stint in the WWF.

It has always been unique to read or hear an Orndorff interview....Sometimes he is really upbeat and complimentary of people and sometimes he seems so bitter towards the wrestling industry....He is one of my all time favorites, so I hate to see him leave the business and have any resentment.......Talented performer to be sure......
