Hi everybody, i'm new to the forums, I wish we could have wrestling the way it was in Jim Crockett Promotions! As if that hasn't been said before! I don't understand why a promotion like CCW or some other young promotion out there just doesn't promote it's wrestling shows the way they did in the old days using the barter system, "here's a videotape of my wrestling show, play it for free and let me advertise my upcoming show in the area and you can sell advertising for it" Why don't todays wrestling promoters do that anymore. CCW seems to have decent crowds?

hey duke, good to see you here. to answer your question, why should a channel take that as a deal? i agree with you, but if they did that, they would have to actually work. somebody would have to locate and secure those advertisers. it's a different day now. everybody wants the money just given to them. any channel could get the supplier for the videotape to pay them to air their tape as tv programming while the tv guys sit back and get rich. and they could likely get paid programming cheaper than the cost of locating advertisers. maybe. sorry, but i just am not optimystic about folks.

It would just be very hard to get something like this going again. A promotion would have to run regular enough cards to have televison tapings. The under card could be used for TV but you can't give away the big matches. That's why WWE attendence is down. Local television stations aren't interested in original programming anymore. Infomercials and car dealers seem to have to lock up on any free time here. It's more money in selling those than trying to find several businesses interested in advertising during a wrestling show. I don't know how many local promotions are able pull it off but it can be many.

It's sad to see the era of Saturday morning wrestling on television is no more. I don't count WWE in that category, i'm talking about Wrestling TV tapings, inside a TV studio. I remember when the WWE (WWF?) had it's Saturday show on WTBS for a short period of time in 1985, it seemed like they had no idea how to produce a wrestling show inside a TV studio. Of course they didn't last very long!

again, like i said, it's a new day. tv execs would have to work to do that. and most would not allow a wrestling show at the studio without a ton of money for rent of the building and liability insurance for the fans. it's a new day. tv execs now, they are like 30 years old and never saw tv studio wrestling before. they wouldn't understand the reasons to do it that way or take a chance with the insurance. and i bet they wouldn't give you the time of day to explain it to them.

TNA seems to be done in a studio of some sort. It's about as close to the old days in that respect, though obviously it's far from the same style of wrestling.

Doesn't Memphis still have some kind of TV wrestling on Saturday morning out of the studio? Also, what about OVW? Having never seen it, just wondering what the setup is. I know it's not TV studio, but closer than a 10,000-seat building.
