I've been given this set of results:
However, all of the sources I could find suggest that Steamboat beat Flair for the US Title in Toronto on December 18.
Was the title change not acknowledged for a few weeks?
Or was Steamboat the champ in Charlotte? (which is odd because he loses to Paul Jones and there's no mention of a DQ or countout for that one)

That's a good question. I can't seem to find it anywhere. My guess is that it wasn't announced on TV until the following week. That's my hunch.

Oh but it gets even better!!!
I started a thread about this on the KM board, in which I found a thread which states that Steamboat won it from Flair on December 30 in Greensboro.
Naturally, Clawmaster advised me to pick the brains of the Gateway in hopes that someone may have a newspaper clipping. Perhaps the "title histories" section can extend another few months further and solve this one for me!!
The plot thickens ...

Sounds to me that they ran the same title change in different cities -- which happened from time to time back then -- and thus didn't acknowledge the real title change until the Greensboro show, thus that's why the Charlotte lineup was the way it was.

Steamboat was NOT the U.S. Champ in Charlotte.
Flair was defending in the cage match vs Mulligan.
Im not disputing that the change may have been done in Toronto on the 17th as I can neither confirm nor deny. I can confirm that it wasnt acknowledged until after this show if it was done on the 17th. I had always heard the date of Dec 30 for the switch. Flair was definitely defending in Charlotte.
I would have posted this in KM but it wont let me log in for some odd reason. It did briefly yesterday but keyword briefly LOL

Thanks James!!
I guess that settles it. They ran the title change twice (at least)
"carlton st" on the KM board posted a picture from the Toronto card with Steamboat celebrating his title victory.
