As I look through all the different sources I have access to, I noticed that every one of them lacks the location of where Tully Blanchard won his first TV Title in 1984. There's a date (March 28 ,1984) but no city.
I don't have a house show result for it. The city isn't mentioned in the 3rd Edition Title Histories book It's not listed on puroresu.com's title histories either.
Was this a phantom switch with no actual match?

No, the match did occur. I don't recall the city, but I think it may have been Spartanburg. The switch is on tape. I have it. Paul Jones managed Tully during this match. I'll see if I can locate the tape and place the facility.

Do you happen to know how/when Paul Jones split from Tully?
Was there an angle, or did Jones just sorta fade away?
(For instance, was Jones around with Tully that summer when Tully/Wahoo feuded against Flair/Steamboat?)

It may have been Fayetteville. I can't remember for sure. I know I have it on tape somewhere. I might be able to tell from the video.

i do believe he was with jones very shortly. jones faded away while jj faded to tully. Really? I thought JJ was not involved with Tully at all until the end of 1985, when Tully slapped Baby Doll after Dillon "sent her on vacation" as a Christmas present "from Tully"

Jones lasted with Tully real briefly. JJ was on/off with Tully throughout '84 because of the connection with Ron Bass and Black Bart, but he wasn't full-time until the incident with Babydoll that you speak of. Tully had Babydoll with him mostly from summer of '84 until late '85, as you stated.

Jones was only with Tully for a few weeks. He just vanished as I guess the powers that be recognized that the fit just wasnt right. At any rate he wasnt with Tully when the Wahoo/Flair/Steamboat was even beginning. He was long gone from Tully by that time. Baby Doll wasnt in in 1984 she came into the picture early in 1985.
Here is the lineup for the MACW with the title victory
Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling March 31, 1984 Junkyard Dog D Kurt Von Hess TV TITLE Tully Blanchard D Mark Youngblood Brian Adidas & Jimmy Valiant D Barry Orton & Bobby Bass Ivan Koloff & Don Kernodle D Mark Fleming & Vinny Valentino Assassin #1 D Sam Houston

Baby Doll was in World Class in the summer and fall of 1984 as "The Lady Giant" Nicola Roberts managing Gino Hernandez. She left World Class in December 1984, I think. She arrived there in August 1984 and help Gino regain the American Heavyweight Title from Mike Von Erich in Ft. Worth, TX at the Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum.

Did it take place in a TV studio match? Or did the TV show present the match as part of some house show footage?

It was taped at an arena. I was thinking it was Spartanburg, but I'd have to go back and check.

It was an arena but Im pretty sure it wasnt Spartanburg. Im not SWEARING it wasnt but somehow I remember it being in a darker building and Spartanburg was always very well lit for the tvs. WIthout digging out the tape, my initial lean is either Greenwood or one of the somewhat rare Fayetteville tapings.
