Great article. Ivan is a great man. Every time I see him he puts a smile on my face. He seems so gentle, but the last time I saw him perform was in Waynesboro and he was on. He still can get the fans to boo him.
God bless him.

i too saw ivan in waynesboro and he definately got the heat. i was able to talk with ivan prior to the matches and to give him a magazine photo i had of ivan, nikita, kernodle, and gary hart. ivan and don had the world tag belts with the red straps. he said he didn't have the photo and he really enjoyed seeing it. a childhood friend was with me who had done some wrestling in va with an independent outfit. when ivan saw my friend he recognized him and hugged him just like he had known him for years. it was really a special moment to stand there with ivan and johnny and talk. ivan was certainly a changed man. he was seated beside dusty rhodes and you could not have asked for a bigger contrast in personalities. ivan was very warm kind and cordial while dusty wanted $$$$ for his autograph and didnt seem as if he was interested in meeting the fans.

I also met Ivan, by sheer accident, one afternoon at a Wal-Mart in Raleigh signing autographs for the Children's Miracle Network.
Nice guy!! and his wife also!!! I did say something to him that afternoon about that time him and Nikta in the dungeon training for a title bout and I believe they had gotten word from the Kremlin that they must win or else!! Great stuff!!

Ivan is a class act. My first night of refeereeing, in 1993, he was in the main event and treated me with tremendous respect. Everytime that I have ever worked with Ivan, he has shown to be a gentleman.
Last year in Waynesboro, he gave me a tremendous compliment. After the tag bout, he came up to me in the locker room and said that "they made the right choice," as far as who should referee the match. When you hear something like that from a gentleman of Ivan's status, it makes you feel good about your work.
Thank you, Ivan. God bless.

I met Ivan at the first Night of the Legends at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium. I noticed the WWJD bracelet on his wrist and told him that I liked his bracelet. He smiled and told me "that's my new tag team partner" (referring to Jesus). If I recall I paid one dollar for an autographed picture with the proceeds going to the Make A Wish Foundation. He was a very warm, kind and generous man. God Bless him.
