First of all let me say that I absolutely lovde your work as Superstar. The angles you had with Tommy Rich, Wrestling II, and Road Warriors were all classic IMHO> I have, what I think is an interesting question. Iloved the mask tyhat you wore. Who designed it and how many "copies" did you have at one time. Who do you think had cool looking masks. I also liked Spoiler's mask. Looking forward to seeing your response.

I've been wondering for years whether or not you were choosy in what mask to wear to the ring. Example: do you wear the darker colored masks to emphasize that Masked Superstar is a heel, and the light-colored masks to emphasize he's a face?

The masks were originally made for me by my wifes grandmother. Then I had a few made in Japan and South America. I had several of the same color at one time. I estimate that over my career that I had over 1,000.
The wearing of the various colors was part of the appeal to the fans. Several fans would like a particular color combination. I tried to mix it up and not wear the same color at the same building too often. Part of the appeal to many was waiting to see which color I would wear that evening. I have had many many comments to that affect. Most often the ones that the fans liked most of all: Silver Metallic or Gold Metallic with black face and black stars. Each color combination had it's following.
Hope that hepls with both questions!
It would be difficult to pick favoprite of other. As I have mentioned before, if I single out a few , I will offend some others.

What about the Super Machine mask? Was that design your idea or the WWE's?
I figure that mask is not a favorite of yours. Its cool-looking for sure. But I imagine working with the Machine mask must be difficult since the eyes and mouth is covered. And I don't see any holes for the nose unlike your Masked Superstar masks, so it must be especially hard to breathe when the match gets heated.

That particular mask was designed for the original Machine team from Japan. We simply took on that idenity. It was terrible to wear and wrestle in. I was sure happy that it was only for a short time. It would never have been my choice of masks. I believe it was to totally cover up the facial feature of the two Japanese wrestlers that wore it. I would think that was the reason. Perhaps they were wrestling there before the gimmick and needed to be totally covered.
Breathing was no problem but line of sight and lateral vision was definately a struggle. Nothing at all like the vision and fit of my personal masks.
