I thought that one of your better early fueds was with Mighty Igor!
Just from seeing film from some of your battles with him..well to say the crowd heat was deafening would be an understatement!
I was just wanting to know why this fued didn't go on long enough(it kinda seemed it was stopped just as it was getting super hot..cayse Igor was super over with the fans) and what were your thoughts on this fued and working with this man!
thanks !

I agree, the Igor /cigar angle was very hot. In fact I did the same thing to Dino Bravo in Montreal and to Inoki in Japan. In all thre cases it was fantastic in drawing fans to the buildings. Pretty good return on the investment cost for three big stinky cigars!!!!!In fact I often tell fans that I got a 13/14 years run in Japan from one cigar purchase and burning the right opponent with it.
I enjoyed working wit Igor, not because he was a tremendous talent in the ring. He was very limited in his movement. I liked working with him because he knew his character. he knew what Igor was about and how to match that with the what the crowdected from him. He was a good interview. He was intelligent and good busines man. He was in character ALL OF THE TIME.When you saw Igor on the street he was the same as the Igor at the building. In fact he woyuld use abrasive material to keep the infection from he cigar burn going. So much that the doctors told him that if he didn't get the infection under contriol he may lose his sight in the eye. He still kept it going for some time after that warning. That's dedication to the angle and intensity foer the business. People felt sorry for him. They wanted to kill me and they wanted io see him do that. They felt empathy for him. Here was this simple soul that was take advantage of by this arrogant , selfish bully(me) and they felt the need to help him get even. Not the same heat as today. !!!!!In Japan it was very severe. I was escorted out of the country at one point. I had to leave due to death threats. It made for good following !!!!
As far as cutting it off too soon, perhaps. I think there was a little jealousy involved from some of the established babyfaces. I also thought we could have strung it out a little more but I had no say in it. I was fortunate it helped establish me as a top heel in the area and led to me working with many others. It also opened the doors to other territories and I thank him for helping me with that.
I know Igor was very frugal and made some healthy investments in Florida. From what I hear he turned that into some good profits for him and his family.
I have nothing but good thoughts about him. He was a gentleman and honest to me and gave his all. Wasn't a hot dog in the ring and gave his best effort to give the fans a good performance.

[shadow=red,left,300][glow=red,2,300]I grew up in the Charlotte area watching wrestling since I was a toddler. Igor was one of my favorites because of his love for the fans. Was he as gracious backstage as he was onstage? My favorite matches of his were the ones with the Baron. He could really get over on him. [/glow][/shadow]

Igor was a very nice man. I enjoyed being around him. He was a good business man and knew what the fans would and wouldn't expect from his character. He was a professional. \ I really don't recall many of his matches with the Baron. I was perhaps not there or I was involved in another set of matches that kept me in a different arena. Baron is another good man. I am not surprised they had good matches. Each being very professional.
