I've been meaning to write this post for a few days now. But before I get started there is something I read this morning that I couldn't agree with more.
I read a post on George South's Web site, his monthly note to the fans. He spoke of Jesus and Christmas. In particular, he talked about the writing of Merry XMas. I couldn't agree with George more on this. BIG TIME HEAT FOR THIS ONE. Folks, it's Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ.
Just the other day, my son wrote Merry XMas on his Christmas list. I asked him what's this (Yes, I knew what it meant). He said "Merry Christmas." I said, "Oh, no it's not." I hate it when someone writes XMas.
So, George, thanks for pointing that out on your Web page. I agree with you on that one.
Now, back on my topic. Every year for the past, oh, I don't know, 5-6 years, my wife and I have chosen a name off the Christmas tree list at my work to provide Christmas for a needy child. It is such a great feeling to know that you have provided some joy for a child who may not get that kind of joy this year.
Now, don't get me wrong. Christmas is about Jesus. But, as we all know, when it comes to Christmas, and celebrating it in commercialized America, it's also about giving.
If you're out and about this holiday season and you see a Christmas tree with names on it for children who are hoping for something this year, please try to be generous and be the "Santa Claus" these kids hope there is. It not only will make a child's Christmas a little brighter, but I guarantee you that you'll feel a sense of joy about it as well.
