I always liked the NWA US Tag Team Title Belts. Anyone know why those belts were dropped? The explanation I recall from Bill Watts was that WCW had too many titles and that he also wanted to give all the different tag teams one set of belts to shoot for. At the time the championship was dropped, they had the WCW World heavyweight title, World tag team title, U.S. title, TV title, Light Heavyweight title, and they had just recently brought back the NWA tag team titles and were getting ready to ressurect the NWA heavyweight title. Besides, the promotion was mostly throwing together just random, makeshift tag teams to wear them like Ron Simmons and Big Josh, Terrence Taylor and Greg Valentine, and Dick Slater and The Barbarian. But then again, you could make a case that they were doing the same with the World belts too. |
