anybody here beside me, like the term he had as colour commentator on MACW with bob caudle? i thought he added some flavour to the show. what about his time as a manger? he was with the team of chris markoff-nikolai volkoff during his feud with johnny weaver. he also managed billy robinson and the short lived gimmick of King James I of Wrestling, the great forgotten gimmick before jimmy valiant became the boogie woogie man. some of my best memories of the time period ("81) are from hays and his men.

Lord Alfred could talk in 81. I remember alittle about his fued with Johnny Weaver. Love to see some house show footage of these two from 1981. Two veterans who could still work. Summer of 81 was really hot for MACW. I think they knew they would lose Flair from the everyday roster and turned up the angles a bit. Is it just me but looking back wasn't the mid card talent during this time pretty good? Many tag teams with Weaver around.

yeah, there was a lot of good mid card teams and singles put together to make the makeshift teams. look at this: george wells dewey robertson sweet ebony diamond mr fuji tenryu johnny weaver paul jones jake roberts jay youngblood chris markoff nikolai volkoff
that is some good talent to put into some teams. i know i'm forgetting some mid to upper card names here, but that is still a good list. and some good jobbers too at the time.

I did not go to many shows back then but the shows I went to where mostly in Bluefield WV. These where good solid shows with pretty good crowds. They ran Bluefield about every 3 months. The bread and butter of house shows then was the mid card guys. Look at some results from the 70's early 80's. Some shows had a jobber match, 2 mid cards and a main event. I think Johnny Weaver was on every show I saw or seemed to be. Some regular towms like Ashville and Greenville sometimes got weak cards. Seems like we always got the main event they had been run everywhere else on the circuit.

I thought Hayes was great as a commentator in 1981. He came in for a number of weeks as a "babyface" commentator with Bob Caudle, and then the promotion slowly turned him heel by having him take shots at Johnny Weaver, who at the time was doing commentary with Rich Landrum on the World Wide Wrestling TV show. A couple of the confrontations between Hayes and Weaver during this time period were hysterical...I break out laughing just thinking about them!

I was at the house show when Johny Weaver and Jay Youngblood defeated The Russians (Markoff and Volkoff) for the Mid-Atlantic Tag Straps. For an old guy, Weaver still had quite a few good moves; he was as over as Flair, Mulligan, Steamboat, etc. The blowoff was when other wrestlers came from the back and held the Russians at bay, and threw Alfred Hayes into the ring. Weaver got a solid 10 minutes of revenge, even to the point of bloodying Hayes.
To say that the fans went home feeling that they got their money's worth is an understatement. The heat was great, and only true veterens like Weaver and Hayes could make a match work that well.

Yeah, from what i've seen, Hayes was one of the best. Really enjoyed him.
