that has to be one of the most incredible college basketball stories ever. I used to go to Minges Coliseum at ECU all the time and watch the Pirates play GMU every season. There would be about 3,000 fans there. Unbelievable the Patriots are going to Indianapolis. And they had as hard a road as any other team to get there. Who would've thought they would've beaten Michigan St, UNC and Uconn.

I mean talk about a story. There've been a few -- Marquette, UNLV, etc., who've made it to the Final Four in years past not from a major conference. But, really, we're talking about something more like Penn and Indiana State (with Larry Bird) from 1979 here.
Not sure off top of my head, but if Villanova loses tonight, this will be the first time since, I think 1980, that no No. 1 seed will make it to the Final Four. I'd have to research it.

1980 is correct, until now.

Right now I need to hear that Billy Packer speech again about the smaller schools maybe not deserving to be in the tourney. What an idiot!!!!!!!!

Billy Packer is nothing but a blowhard. What a jerk. I was glad to see the mid major schools do well in the NCAAs. I hope George Mason wins two more games and carries home the National Championship trophy. Wouldn't that be something. It can be done, an uphill battle for sure, but crazy things have happened before. And it would eclipse what NCSU did in 1983.

Thank you. I needed someone to say that about Packer. LOL.
How about Villanova in 1985 as a No. 8 seed winning the tourney? I'd have to check and see what State was seeded, but I believe they were a No. 6 in the ACC tourney in '83 when it won.

Packer is a moron.
Anyway... Great time for the state of Virginia and College Basketball.
George Mason in the Final Four. My wife is a Mason alumni so maybe now they'll stop hitting her up for money. lol
Virginia Union (Petersburg?) went to the finals in the Division 2 NCAAs.
Virginia Weslyan (Norfolk/Va Beach) won the NCAA Division 3 championship.

Virginia Union was in the D-II finals for the second consecutive year, having won the title in 2005. VUU comes from a fairly strong CIAA conference, so it's no surprise they did so well.
Virginia Wesleyan was in the final for the first time. Congrats to it.
