Not sure when this is to be announced to the public, but I heard today that our friend Tony Atlas is among the legends to be inducted into this year's class of the WWE Hall of Fame.
Congratulations to Tony!

Congrats to Tony. A truly nice guy. He is great to be around at the fanfests.

Tony Atlas certainly was a very nice guy at Fanfest and deserves to be in the WWE Hall of Fame. Bret Hart, Dusty Rhodes, Tony Atlas, with these guys all going into WWE HOF, pretty cool to think they all were at Fanfest back in August.

WWE considers themselves to own the "sports entertainment" (yuck) business and it's history, so they are including guys who didn't have their biggest success in WWE. I think Dusty had bigger runs there than Atlas did.

Great news. Always a big Atlas fan, and not to throw out too many cheap plugs, but we have last year's interview with Tony Atlas archived on my website.

Not to hijack the thread, but I thought Dusty wasn't going in this year.

Maybe someone more familiar with that timeframe can pipe in here and enlighten us. And he had a good run when he returned in 1989, despite the polka dots.

This comes from Mike Aldren's Wrestling 365 newsletter:
"We've also heard from a reliable source that "Mr. USA" Tony Atlas is among those to be inducted. Altas was a big-money player in virtually every major promotion of his time, including Jim Crockett Promotions, World Class, and the AWA. Vince McMahon called him "a promoter's dream" and pushed him to near main event status during the early 80s until making an example out of him by firing him for no-showing several dates. Atlas peaked when he and Rocky Johnson, the father of The Rock, won the WWF tag titles in 1983 over The Samoans."

I remember as a kid in the Lynchburg Armory. While getting an autograph from Tony Atlas before a match, my little brother says to Tony " Those muscles arent real" and my fat little brother probably weighed about 75lbs and Tony grabbed him by the belt at the front of his pants and picked him straight up into the air with one hand. Hey is truly a very nice guy I wish him well.
