This is a letter we are sending to all wrestling related websites. Many of you know us from this past August's fanfest. We were burnt by Dustin Rhodes, who cost us over $500 in hotel and airfare, when he decided to noshow bookings we had for him the weekend of September 16th.
Promoters Beware
People talk about booking nightmares, well we have a one for you. One year ago for our first convention Wrestlefest 05, we booked Dustin Rhodes. Some people warned us about Dustin's track record. We had several talks with Dustin, and we decided to give him a chance, as he promised he would be there. Dustin came to our first show, and fullfilled his end of our agreement.
One year later we decided to work with him again. We got him three bookings, two autograph signings and a match. He agreed on the terms of the deal and promised he would be there. We had had his flight and hotel booked. On friday September 15, we talked and he confirmed our plans for the weekend. At 5am Saturday September 16 he called, and said he was very sick, and needed a later flight. One of the signings we had needed to be cancelled, which we did in order to save the rest of the weekend. We changed his flight and had to pay a penalty of $100 for the change. He assured us that he would be on the later flight, no matter what.
At 12pm we recieved a call from a friend of Dustin's and us. This person told us that Dustin refused to get on the plane for the later flight. She told Dustin to call us to talk about the problem which he also refused to do. We called Dustin numerous times, and he will not pick up his phone.
We lost the money on the plane ticket and hotel. He noshowed all three bookings, putting those people in a major bind. Dustin swore to us that morning he would honor his word. Apparently his word means nothing.
The reason for this is to warn all promoters of our situation. If anyone thinks about booking Dustin in the future, they should reconsider dealing with a person who told us this business is his heart and soul, and would never screw us. Instead he screwed us, the other promoters, his fans and this business.
