Well there are alot of good places to eat, chinese included, right near the doubletree. Why go to alexandria for a buffet when you can stay close to the hotel and not miss any of the action? Here is a list within 5 min of the hotel
CHilis, Arbys, Tuesdays, Fridays, Popeyes, Mcdonalds, pizzabut/taco bell, silver diner, china king, cicis all you can eat pizza buffet, bennigans, hooters, fuddruckers, Outback. Thats off the top of my dome and Montgomery Mall and Wheaton plaza arent that far away which have alot of places to eat as well.

I don't know how good the all you can eat buffet places are within 5 minutes of the hotel, but in any case if anyone is arriving Thursday before the fanfest come to Pentagon City metro and I can drive you to that all you can Chinese place. It's $8 per person.
Tip: It helps if you haven't eaten all day

Avoid Wheaton plaza, trust me. There is a buffet called Bamboo Buffet that has a lot of the same things, I'm sure not as good though right on Viers Mill Road in Rockville, not that far from the hotel.

no offence, but me...if i have the time, i WOULD rather drive a bit farther away than at the doubletree. other than the chinese place you mentioned, all the list of places you said are all chain restaurants that can be found in any city of any size in the country (and some out of the country). when i go someplace (anyplace) i prefer to eat at places i can't eat at home. in other words, i got macdonalds an pizza hut right here, why go there two states away? all the places you listed, i can go to within 30 minutes or less from my house. you give great reasoning with your suggestions. but i not for me, if i can do different. that's just me... BUT the clock will determine my meals. i can't miss the fanfest activities. so i might have to give in to what's nearest to the hotel.

Guys, far be it from me to tell you guys how to eat (and I definitely understand your point BRY about the chain restaurants,) but for me after spending a good part of the past few months in and around Rockville, I'll go to the chain restaurants just so I KNOW what I'm getting.
I know we need diversity and I'm all for different types of food, but I just can't stomach some of this stuff. You should expect to find many different varieties of all kinds of Asian food. I've found that Rockville chinese isn't exactly the "Southern" brand of chinese I'm used to. I'm not into the squid, chicken feet, and slimey pirannha. Even the Japanese restaurants are very different.
For me, I've found that I'm much better at Wendys, CiCis, or Ruby Tuesday, and I'll wait on my japanese fix until I get home. And, of course, you can't go wrong at Hooters.

Also, I'm not sure of the exact address of that place. What you can do is pretend you're going to Potomac Yard Center. www.mccafferyinterests.com/content/current/pyr/directions.htmOnce there on Jefferson Davis Highway go into E REED AV and continue straight. You'll see Empire Buffet. Then you make a right once once you reach the end of Reed and an a almost immediate left to get to Empire Buffet.
