How talent not showing up can ruin a show---Direct reference to CCW's Crapfest in Franklin, PA
Where do I start...I made the mistake of going to see CCW's show in Franklin, PA yesterday. It was called a "Night of Legends", which is funny because very few of them showed up.
Go to www.carolinachampionshipwrestling.com right now and you will see a list of matches...guess how many of them happened.......ZERO. Not one scheduled match actually took place. I just can't believe that. I have never been to a show before where not one match listed happened. I know that the old standby "card subject to change" still applies, but come on...
I got to Franklin High School about an hour early and quickly experienced my highlight of the night...buying a copy of Hardcore Homecoming: November Reign that will actually feature The Dudleyz (oh-no, I'm going to get sued) vs. Sabu and Terry Funk. After buying my $15 program (more on that later), I went to my seat and waited for the show to start.
As the show started, we were greeted with news that surprised me about as much as the fact that the sun comes up every morning: Dusty Rhodes was not there. Some vague excuse involving WWE was given and they played a taped message of Dusty Rhodes apologizing and saying how bad he felt for disappointing people. First of all, Dusty Rhodes probably sends that same tape to all the promotions he is scheduled to be at, since he probably only makes about 25% of the shows he is scheduled for. Second, I have met Dusty once before and have read many reviews of his other appearances. I really doubt he feels bad about the fans he disappoints and would have likely disappointed more fans by actually showing up and being a jerk.
The first thing that went through my mind when they announced no Dusty was "I'm not sure if I'm mad or not." The second thing was "Well, at least Ron Garvin is still here (sure he is...)"
The announcer said they scrambled and came up with a great main event in its place: The first thing out of his mouth is "A Table Match featuring..." My thought is "No legends are going to be in a table match...this doesn't sound good..."
.....D-Von Dudley vs. Rosey??
I must say, D-Von was awesome to the fans . He signed anything and everything and took pictures with anyone on his way from the ring at the end of the night.
Had this been a standard independent wrestling show, D-Von might well have made up for the entire card not showing up. As awesome as he was, however, I wasn't there to see a table match. I was there to see NWA stars I grew up watching on TV and never had the chance to see live. I wanted to see Ivan Koloff, Ron Garvin, even Dusty Rhodes and Marcus Bagwell. David Flair is hardly a legend, but I have never seen him live before and would have probably enjoyed seeing him once. More importantly, he still appears on the website as being scheduled to be there. The posters at the school also listed the Midnight Express and Ricky Morton as being on the card.
I think I understand why CCW announces the cancellation of every other show. If they are all run like this, I'm surprised they don't all get canceled.
Regarding my $15 dollar program, I cashed my check and kept five twenty dollar bills for the show. I bought the Hardcore Homecoming DVD for twenty dollars. I went to buy a program and the guy selling them gives me back a $5. I asked him how much these programs were and he says $5. I say "OK, I gave you twenty and he says "no, you gave me a ten." I had NO tens. I just couldn't believe it.
I felt so ripped off that I drove 45 minutes for that crap. You could have gotten for free and still not gotten your money's worth. This was by far and away the worst wrestling show I have ever been to.
