Well, I'm a day late on this, and fully intended to have this up yesterday 10/4/05. This is the 30th anniversary of the Wilmington plane crash (October 4th, 1975). It ended the wrestling careers of Johnny Valentine and Bob Bruggers. Also on the plane were Ric Flair, Tim Woods, David Crockett. The pilot of the small plane died several weeks after the crash. It is one of the most infamous events in Mid-Atlantic Wrestling history and forced booker George Scott to make storyline and talent changes that would re-shape the territory from that point forward. There is a page on the Mid-Atlantic Gateway with clippings and some interviews about that tragic event. The Gateway Remembers: The Wilmington Plane Crash

Since Christmas is coming, and Thanksgiving has passed, I think these are appropriate. Flair-BJM highlighted the Thanksgiving show as well. Both matches were in the cage. Although the Thanksgiving show was usually considered the biggest show of the year, I would say that the X-mas show was the better of the two (from 1978 at least). Anyway, the attendance for the Thanksgiving show reads 13,447 from the newspaper article (Thanks Gateway). This is exactly 2,000 less than the capacity. Could that have been a typo and the Thanksgiving show actually sold out?

I was among the 9,000 fans in the old coliseum this night. To the best of my knowledge this sellout held the attendance record for a wrestling event right up until the old coliseum was torn down some 20 years later. During that era Winston Salem's Holiday Show was held the day after Christmas unless that day fell on Sunday.

I did not know that World Class Championship Wrestling referree of the 1980s was a heel in Mid Atlantic in the 1960s. I thought he was a babyface.

Yes sir. Bronco Lubich was one of top drawing heels in Jim Crockett Promotions during the 60's.It was probably around late 1970 when he last appeared here as the partner of Chris Markoff.

Bronco Lubich and Aldo Bogni were, indeed, top heels for JCP for much of the 1960s.
They gave Becker and Weaver a fit...and can't leave out their original manager...General Homer O'Dell, who had as much heat in JCP as ANYONE.

Hart managed in nearly every 1970s and 1980s NWA promotion (Mid Altantic (multiple times), Georgia, World Class, Florida, etc.)

American Starship was Dustys idea and they sucked bad. Scott Hall got a little better but Spivey NEVER had a clue. Hall was a bouncer in Tampa where all the boys hung out and Dusty liked him.
