I don't mind if they sell what came with the VIP. But when you put a stack of the same photo in front of them, that's when it becomes a problem.
Here's a suggestion for future conventions. Tell the wrestlers that they must personalize all autographs. Of course then everyone would be asking the wrestlers to sign the photos/merchandise to someone named E. Baybuyer. Ha!

Personalization of photos would hold up the line. I really don't like it either, I might want to get rid of them some day, whether thats sell or give away I don't know, but I just don't usually get them that way.

.....Tell the wrestlers that they must personalize all autographs. Sorry, VERY bad idea: 1. Too time consuming. 2. Kills any value for future resale of items. 3. Signers will invariably miss-spell your name. 4. Basically, we are paying for these autographs and should be able to get them as we want them. I even dislike the stupid bible passages that the born again wrestles seem determined to add to their signature...do they think anyone actually "sees the light" from that on a photograph? Do they sign their paychecks that way? Please. Fred*, Atl

That's uncalled for. I respect Tully and Ivan for signing the way they do. Don't start Christian bashing on this site, Fred.

i mean you meet cindy crawford, jeff gordan, or terell owens....those folks dont charge for an auto graph. Actually, most of them do charge for autographs if they are making an "appearance", unless they are hawking something at the moment. The majority of the stuff you get "through the mail" is secretarial or preprints and that's also what is re-sold on ebay as "Authentic". With the advent of Ebay and other market areas, the signers are overly sensative about it. Hey, they are selling you their autograph in the first place... why shouldn't you be able to resell it. (Yes, you pay Greg and he pays the talent.) Fred, Atl.

Here's a question: If it were for your personal collection, why would you need more than 1 or 2 autographs anyway? Wow, seems I'm all over the topics of autographs. I can give you several reasons why I enjoy more than one or two autographs. First off, like others, I have one book that I try to get them all to sign. Next, I go to great lengths to find very old and rare photos to have the vintage hero's sign...as they often get a big kick out of seeing the items as well. Then many of them have books out that I like to have signed, and often I like to have photos of tagteams, or groups all signed, but you can't always get them signed at the same time so you get what you can and maybe the next show you can complete the team, etc. Yes, I can usually find about 4 unique items that I'd love to have signed by each person. In the past fanfests, I always got my 2 VIP autographs, then got at the end of the line and then usually got two more and I was a happy man. Yes, this show was a bit different and I only got the two per signer, but did manage to catch a few signers to add one more here and there. Fred*

Next some will be adding "vote for xxxx" or "buy Pepsi" or whatever....just ruins it. And yes, I have an avid autograph collector, but also have avoided these people trying to make some statement with their signature. Fred, heathen

Fred,
As far as the "personalizing every item"...you'll notice it was said in jest when the "E. Baybuyer" was added.
What you need to understand with these "Born Again Wrestlers" is that their beliefs are now a part of them. They have found what makes them happy and enjoy attempting to share what they believe with others. I am sure that everyone would rather have Tully sign his picture with a "I Corinthians" subtext rather than have him read that entire book of the Bible to them.
You also said "do they actually think that someone will see the light from that?" Now, I have one question for you..."what if someone does?" To some people, that may be the only God they ever see. Well worth it, if you ask me.
Fred, you don't have to like or appreciate someone else's values and beliefs, but as long as it does not affect you, you don't have to publicly chastize them for their practices. If you don't get their autographs, why bitch?
Be Well, Dan

If you don't get their autographs, why bitch? Be Well, Dan It's amazing....everyone feels fine bashing Dory or WWE or Dusty or whatever, but in my discussions about autographs, I make a comment about what I feel is a rediculous habit of the born-again wrestlers adding bible quotes to their signatures, and you'd think I'd kicked a dog or something! I have every right to comment on the signatures that we are paying to get, and as to why I bitch....it's my right just like everyone else. I go to great lengths to find unique and sometimes rare and expensive items, and then to have someone sign it and scribble religious scripture all over them is very dissappointing, plus destroys any potential value. No one intended/intends to start an argument over this. It is fine to bash Dusty, WWE, and Dory but you need to understand that religion always brings out the fighting side of people. While I don't see the big deal with them putting those messages, that's your deal. I wouldn't know about potential resale value, basically because I don't resell anything. Wouldn't it have been a bit more polite to simply say "by the way, no offense but I don't really care for it when Ivan and Tully put religious remarks on their autographs." Instead of labeling them as the "born-agains" and making comments like "do they really think someone is going to 'see the light?'" There's always a nice(er) way to say everything. GB, Dan "Drink Pepsi" PS. By the way, "John" is the only name that belongs in front of "3:16."

About Dusty Rhodes, I traveled about 2 hours to see him for the first time in about 20 years or so and took a real nice photo with him with my camera and I also paid him for the quick polaroid shot for 5 bucks. The following month he returned and I again traveled 2 hours to see him at a show and this time I had the photos of he and I together and presented to him for an autograph copy. He charged me 5 bucks each just for his signature. Now that's rediculous...but that's Dusty Rhodes for you, he's not there for your benefit, he is there for his cut.

wow...someone has seen the light about dusty. thanks ncwrestlingfan for that story. people think i am such a bad person for "bashing" as i am accused of. but i feel that as i keep somewhat quiet, more people are coming out of the woodworks spouting the negatives about his personal look at life. and your money.
i have to agree with fred on this one. while i am a christian,...i know what the bible says about reaching others and all that (and i don't resale things either), but i would rather anything be signed with their name, or a possible note of interest between me and him. like when i met terry funk in may, he signed his book to me thanking me for remembering him and his matches. he said that because i told him about a couple bouts i saw him in back in the early '80's and how much i liked them. i don't mind that, that makes it more special to me. another thing about me that sorta goes with this example, if i am taking a photo of a snow covered mountain, i don't want you, me, or anyone else posing in front of it. i want a photo of the mountain. that being said, i can fully agree with fred. if i got something with a 3:16 or some other quote attached, i wouldn't fuss at them for writing it there, but i would walk away shaking my head. i just don't see someone leaving that autograph line to run up to their room to look it up in the bible to see what it says.

that's sad, ncw. Like I said, I am in the minority for liking him as a performer, but I don't care for the person. I bought his book at Fanfest. I haven't read it yet, but after thumbing through it, it confirmed that I should've got Terry Funk or JJ's instead.
I was actually going to have Dusty sign the book, but sonofagun, the thing was already signed. I didn't know that when I bought it. It's good, because he would've charged me anyway.

maybe i'm in the minority here, but i get autographs to keep as memories of these wrestlers i have met...i don't get them for potential"resale" or value of the autograph!! with that said,a wrestler writing something along his sig.like a bible verse,a "god bless you" or whatever, doesn't demean that autograph to me at all!! just my opinion! it seems that the one's that have the most probs, are the ones just wanting the autographs for a later monetary gain! in fact i usually have most autographs personalized!! and when some one does sign their sig with a religuious, for exampl, quote or verse, the thought nevers crosses my mind that they are "throwing" their beliefs on me! Just my opinion so i hope no one takes this the wrong way as i am bashing no one here!
