Indeed, sometimes less is more.
I always loved the Anderson interviews for the exact reasons Baltimore Jack mentioned.
Like-wise, the BOLOS/ASSASSINS and MASKED SUPERSTAR interviews impressed me because they didn't rant, rave, or scream. They remained calm and very "business-like", and I believed every word they said.
The show in which SUPERSTAR Eadie turned babyface against Gene Anderson, Snuka, etc. and calmly looked dead-pan into the camera and calmly said, "Gene Anderson---You're a dead man!"...
It gave me chills!

The fact that Gene didn’t talk made him more of a threatening, almost mysterious character to me when I was first watching wrestling. He just stood with Ole holding his belt. No angle to tease a break up of the team like what would be required today. The point was this guy had made a sacrifice so that he and his brother could get their belts back. Without saying a word, that was one powerful statement. Gene Anderson always said more by saying less. And I believed! BaltimoreJack, Thanks for stating what I've wanted to so many time but never got around to it. I'm in my ummmm....late 40's and Gene and Ole were my true baptism into pro-wrestling. With names like Weaver, Scott, and many others, ...as a kid I was transfixed to a small B&W 7 inch TV screen every saturday morning in Charleston, SC, watching one of only 3 stations in the area....and watching NWA! Although impressed by the Missouri Mauler, Argentine Apollo, Firpo, and others, over time I always came back to the Wrecking Crew. As the years went by, things in wrestling changes, the loss of Gene, the birth of the Horsemen (in all flavors), etc. but there was always OLE to keep my connection to my childhood and the astomishment and fascination with wrestling. To this day, every time I see Ole, it's like I'm a kid again, and even though Gene is gone, it's like he's just out back or around the corner and will be in the next match. Perhaps it was his stoic role that keeps him so alive to me. He didn't need to talk then, and he doens't need to talk now. He was just serious about his job, and just got it done. To me, the silent 'brother' will always be there. Thanks to Greg and these Fanfest, I have had several opportunites to live the dream of meeting Ole, shaking his hand, asking for an autograph, and babble like a 12 year old....and in my eyes, he still looks like he did 30 years ago ......and I'm just waiting for Gene and the next match. sorry to ramble, Fred, Atlanta

I always loved the Anderson interviews for the exact reasons Baltimore Jack mentioned. They remained calm and very "business-like", and I believed every word they said. Have to totally agree there, and that's why I've lost so much respect for todays stars that have "good mike skills".... 20 minutes of HHH and his sledge hammer spitting water and screaming, doesn't do anything for me, but having Ole look calmly into to the camera and says I"m going to break your arm"......and then do it... THAT was the stuff legends are made of. JJ Dillon was the perfect manager to carry on that tradition with the Horsemen..."it's a business, we will get the titles and keep them," nuff said. "I was only 9 weeks old when my grandpa Gene passed away and it is so cool knowing I had a superstar as a grandpa. If he was alive today I would be the proudest grandchild. its an honor knowing how many people knew my grandpa for his Wrestling."
This is a statement from another one of his grandkids. We were reading all the different statements and he was in awe and so impressed. Thanks for remembering

"The Minnesota Wrecking Crew" and "tag team wrestling" go together like salt and pepper.

I have a whole lot of memories of Gene, but I have a recurring memory of him everytime I pass a Waffle House restaurant. Gene introduced me many years ago to Cheese and Eggs and Raisin Toast with Apple Butter! YUMMMMMM! Oh, yeah, I had to watch him, too, because if I wasn't looking, he'd try to stab me with his fork! He was always up to something! Man, I really miss him!!!

Hey Brad, Welcome to the board.
I grew up in So. St. Paul. Do you still have relatives in that area?

As Brad mentioned in his earlier post, he found some more photos from his Dad's collection. He brought those to us last night at the EWA show in Statesville. They are indeed amazing, and I look forward to getting all of these up on the Gateway/Anderson Brothers Classic website, starting later today (Saturday 6/25).
A big surprise was Brad wearing his Dad's old ring jacket to the ring (the famous red one with "Anderson Brothers" in gold script on the back and "Gene" in gold script on the front.) With that jacket and carrying Gene's boots - I got cold chills!
Special thanks to Brad for sharing all of this with us, for all of us to enjoy through the website.
I’ll post a note here when I have some of these up on the Gateway later today.

A new feature is now up with rare early photos of Gene and Lars Anderson, the original Minnesota Wrecking Crew. More to follow in a week or so which include rare photos of all three of the Anderson Brothers: Gene, Ole, and Lars! These photos are from Gene Anderson's personal collection and are shared with all of us courtesy of his son Brad Anderson. Anderson Brothers Classicor link from the Mid-Atlantic Gateway.
